is there a way to make the site remember me so that i do not have to log-in
every time and to remember my style selection? every time i start a new browser
session i have to log-in and choose the style again. am i guessing correctly
that the site uses session cookies for these things instead of permanent
cookies? is that a deliberate choice? if it is, how can i store a permanent
cookie for these settings so i don't have to re-enter them all the time? i am
the only one using my computer so i have no privacy concerns.

this posting from sticky thread 4554 (good links and tips for newbies) might
apply -

log in bug and how to fix it when it happens:

search for and delete the eztv cookie from your browser.

first thing i tried. didn't help.
site still does not remember log-in or style preference.
plus, as i said but maybe did not make clear, all eztv cookies stored in my
browser are session cookies, set to expire at the end of the session.

i managed to do what i wanted (make the session cookies permanent) using a
cookie editor. however i think the admins should have this be the default.

i am not that technical, but i have never had to manually adjust anything, i
log on from 4 different pc's and they all remember me, after the 2 visit.

i accept session cookies, thats all i have set up

on a side note, i had deleted all links/short cuts to demenoid when it went
down, i when there today, and i was logged in,

cookies are the go

session cookies expire (get deleted automatically) when you close your browser.
maybe at some point in the past eztv used permanent cookies and so you have one
stored from back then, but right now all cookies are session cookies.

back

when they moved the site to .it i did have problems , gad to log in twice
everytime, but i do not know whether there was a fix, or whether our
cookies 'got it'. i just remember not having to do it anymore, but that was a
fair while back

they should change login to choose duration of cookies.

it's a bit annoying having to login every time i enter after closing my browser.

delete your cookies and not be at eztv when doing so. check your browser
settings to see if you have the browser set to delete your cookies, temp, form
data, authenticated sessions, and passwords when you shut your browser off,
disable such security function and delete your data regularly but manually so
you can choose what you want to delete. you delete form data you will lose your
login name. if you delete passwords that password for that login name is
deleted, gone. you delete cookies you will lose auto-login abilities and other
stuff (some info not wanted.)

sometimes lack of hard drive space can create issues with your temporary
internet file capacity as well.

delete your cookies should be fine but leaving your form data and passwords
should make it easy for you to get back into the site and have the re-login
automatically
thing selected. get it right the first time helps with some browsers.

ahem...

usually cookies are given to the browser with an expiration date.
in most forums, they let you choose, this session, one week, one month, one
year, forever (actually in this case they just give a really late expiration date).

eztv gives to firefox only session cookies, which get deleted after closing the
browser. that works like that for all browsers.

even is they gave the correct cookies to internet explorer, that is not
important, since ie is not really a browser. it's a weird microsoft experiment.

if something does not work correctly under firefox, it just do not work.

i have one computer that hasn't required me to login for about eight months
using ie. two others require a login every time. to the best of my ability i
have tried to replicate the browser cookie and other settings from the
constantly-logged-in pc on the others. but i still have to log in each time on
those computers, while the other one never asks for a login. not a big deal,
but a bit of a mystery to me.

at present the site is on a simple rrdns which alternatives between two servers.
this was done to help handle the load of visitors to the site. the servers are
not 100% in sync so you will notice random issues like this occur. i already
know of these issues and has been fixed on the new version. and no, there is no
time frame when it will be updated.
