FOX - The Bane of All Good TV Shows

what in the heck is the problem with these guys??

every time a reasonable show has come along in the last decade or more, they
have shelved it after the first or second season. i won't bother listing the
shows, we all know which ones they are.. even long-lived shows had to fight to
survive with this studio. this is not new.. this is old news. i've just never
seen a credible argument as to why these guys are such a bunch of morons?

sure they backed some good shows as well, otherwise they would have gone under
years ago but seriously.. there are some seriously awesome shows that now lay
dead in the gutter, thrown away like some bad trash. i know that there's only so
much room on the air but man.. these guys need to hire some people who are not
going to buy shows that it's obvious fox will never pick up in the 2nd or 3rd
season.

if you look at the track record it's always the same sort of shows that they buy
and make 1 or 2 seasons of.. it's rather pathetic actually when you think about
it. all they're really doing is making themselves look like the worst managed
network of all time.

so rather than point me in the right direction to them, you decided to flame me
instead.. nice.

that appears to be the job numi has been self-appointed to around here. 😛

most of the shows they cancel are trash, the problem is that they were given the
green light int he first place. yeah sometimes some good stuff gets canned, but
that's like 1 in 10 cancellations.

don't blame 24 and prison break for being great shows from the very first
episode

new amsterdam was average, which is not good enough for prime time network tv

what else has fox cancelled that it shouldn't have? k-ville? don't make me
laugh, the shows getting cancelled on fox deserve it.

now it's shows like journeyman and jericho which are not fox shows that were
very good shows that are getting cancelled.

family guy's situation was rectified through dvd sales.

but you just named one example, and a show that was only 5 episodes long
doesn't really count. what else has been cancelled prematurely? i can think of
a lot of bad shows on fox that were rightfully canned, in fact i can't even
think of their names, except for maybe a few, like the winner.

brimstone, john doe, firefly, wonderfalls.

we\'ve just got to accept the fact that fox has to make room for terrific
shows
like dark angel, titus, undeclared, action, that 80s show, wonder falls, fast
lane, andy richter controls the universe, skin, girls\' club, cracking up, the
pits, firefly, get real, freaky links, wanda at large, costello, the lone
gunman, a minute with stan hooper, normal, ohio, pasadena, harsh realm, keen
eddie, the streak american embassy, cedric the entertainer, the tick, louis,
and greg the bunny.
lois: is there no hope?
peter: well, i suppose if all those shows go down the tubes, we might have a
shot.

no, not all of them were gems...but fox *spit* is the butt of industry jokes
regarding premature cancellation for a reason.

(also, i\'d like to add the inside and possibly new amsterdam to
the above list. the second a prime example of getting above average ratings--
for fox *spit* anyway, not including its multi-night juggernaut, ai--and that
is still not good enough to warrant a renewal. no, it\'s not definite yet but
since i really like it, and it\'s on fox *spit*, i figure that is the kiss of
death.)

lol the only good show peter mentioned there was titus, i'm glad the rest of
them got cancelled

i think part of the problem is that there are execs at fox who love it when
someone pitches them a 'big idea', then get extremely disappointed when the
reality doesn't match up. thus shows which might have grown given time get
cancelled in short order. a lot of these shows frankly sounded a lot better on
paper than they turned out to be on screen, and i'm sorry but as much as some
people will disagree firefly was one of those, the execution fell far short of
the concept. yes fox are too willing to cancel shows, but some shows make it
pretty easy for them.

dmfaust, as a jew, i know a good tv show when i see one. i can spot bad
writing from a mile away, and just about every show you've mentioned was
either bad or horrible. there may be only a small handful of good fox shows to
be cancelled prematurely. i'm surprised none of you mentioned futurama, which
was the same situation as family guy. although it did have a great run, and
now they're making some movies of it, i was still sad to see that go. other
than those and titus...the rest of those shows you think were good, were
actually pretty bad, which is why they didn't get off their feet. i think nbc
and abc and cbs are much worse than fox is in cancelling good shows. much
worse. you got jericho, journeyman, and traveler just to name a few from this
year that were cancelled on those networks.

futurama. arrested development. family guy.

family guy should've stayed dead. it came back, but in the sense of the man who
came back in the tale of the monkey's paw...

it came back a mess, and appears unsavable.
