assuming you use utorrent (like all smart people 🙂

let us also assume you want 350mb releases

click on rss icon in utorrent menubar

select feeds tab
- click add
- enter http://tvrss.net/feed/eztv/
- click ok

select favourites tab
- click add
- enter show name in the listmenu
- make sure it has a check mark
- go to filter settings section and
use the following example as a template for your shows.

filter settings
filter: battlestar?galactica*
not: *hr*|*h*264|*x*264*|*ipod*
save in: f:eps.tv.series/bsg/season3
feed: http://tvrss.net/feed/eztv/
quality: all

minimum interval: (match always)

nothing else needs to be checked or added.

note: always replace space with ? in filter:

here is an example when there is a show with more than one quality release:

filter settings
filter: eureka*
not: *dsr*|*dsrip*|*hr*|*h*264|*x*264*|*ipod*
save in: f:eps.tv.series/eureka
feed: http://tvrss.net/feed/eztv/
quality: pdtv

in this case i dont want dsr (in not:)
and i do want pdtv (in quality)

some people might want the new 720p releases. utorrent does not have a 720p
entry under quality. for this situation you would add 720p to the show name filter.

filter settings
filter: heroes*720p*
not: *pdtv*|*dsr*|*dsrip*|*hr*|*h*264|*x*264*|*ipod*
save in: f:eps.tv.series/eureka
feed: http://tvrss.net/feed/eztv/
quality: any

hope this helps 🙂

i have updated my divx-dvdplayer compatible not: filter to:
not: *hr*|*h*264|*x*264*|*ipod*|*720p*

imo its a good idea, to check the

"give download highes priotity", well thats only if you like to watch it
straight away, some people download over night, so this doesnt matter so much

"smart ep. filter" is always a good idea for shows like bones, cold case, etc
generally problems only occur with this when it comes to things like csi:...
because if you dont set seperate fiters then it thinks they are all the same
series, and if you download s10e9 of 1 series, and the next series is s9e2, it
will ignore it becasue its lower

for the record, newer versions of utorrent do have 720p, 1080i, and 1080p as
selectable qualities.

for the record, the utorrent part of the official rss tutorial screws up ppls
heads it is so complicated...;)
aydin was discussing it with me, but i have no idea if he ever merged my easy setup.

hey! i'm smart and i use deluge on linux. it's a very nice lightweight
client
written in python that matches utorrent feature-for feature, with the extensible
plug-in system utorrent lacks. don't get me wrong, utorrent's definitely an
awesome client, but i don't really trust the fact that strigeus sold out to
bittorrent inc.. for now it *seems* ok, but they didn't give him all that cash
for no reason. when shady deals are going down, i prefer an open-source client.

did i mention deluge been ported to windows? i haven't tried the port, but if
it's anything like the linux version (and it should be, since gtk apps work well
in windows, cf. gaim/pidgin), it's worth checking out if you feel like
downloading illegal stuff with a program that's *not* connected to the movie
industry.

hrmmm. seen the "quick setup" added to the tutorial doc.

i'm not being overly protective of the thing cos it has my name on it, but i
feel that genesis' instructions aren't all that great.

my main issues :-

feeds - uses tvrss.net/feed/eztv/ instead of tvrss.net/feed/legacy/eztv/
the legacy rss formatting gives utorrent's inbuilt parser a much easier time,
leading to many fewer misses due to showname formatting problems.

not rules in the filter - *h*264 & *x*264* - redundant. just use *264* to
cover both. also, *ipod* is not relevant to eztv feeds.

re the "notes"
`always replace space with ? in filter`
why ? the inbuilt parser has no issue with spaces, so it's not neccessary.

`always put a tv show in it's own sub-folder`
why ? that's just someone's personal preference. zero reason for it to be an
absolute, so not neccessary.

`you can select any one of our 3 feeds... never select all in feed: for a tv
show`
why ? shit happens, things go down, hence using backups. utorrent is smart
enough to realise a given torrent is already loaded, so it doesn't cause
dupliction issues, therefore not neccessary.

the decision to not use "smart ep. filter" is, again, a personal decision
rather than absolute. it means that you will catch propers and repacks, but
the downside is that you will get *every* release that passes by that matches
the name filter, unless you stack up every sort of unwanted format in the not
rules for *every* show.
i can understand not wanting to try an explain the mechanics of that in detail
in a "quick setup", but i think (judging by volume of forum posts when it
happens) that more people care about wasting bandwidth on dupes than missing
an occasional proper, so if we are going to list just one of the choices, it
should be to use smart ep. filter, i feel.

thoughts ?

on the line of thinking that shit happens i think is not a bad
idea to use `?` for spaces and always hang a `*` at the end of the name.
excellent point.

i have all the rest working fine

even with doing all that i still cant get the dam thing to work for me. think
it has to be something to do with vista as the utorrent rss always worked before.

assuming utorrent, and that you only want the original law and order (not
svu/criminal intent etc)...

filter: law?and?order
not: *svu*|*special*|*ci*|*criminal*

do not add `*` on the end of this filter (contrary to earlier
discussion in this thread - it will fuck up this particular one)
add any further exceptions into the not: line you might want e.g.
*ac3*|*hr*|*264*|*720*

yeah - i had considered that, and did a search on "law" from the front page to
see what turned up.

the naming convention seems to have standardised on "and" so i ignored the
single instance of ampersand for the sake of simplicity 😉

however, no reason why filter: "law*order" won't work.
as a general habit i try to make matching as restrictive as possible, but
something like "law random garbage stuff order" turning up seems pretty
unlikely.
