it was hdtv though wasn't it. the broadcast aspect ratio was certainly hdtv,
even if the source format was fubar'd by sci-fi. so your incorrect by your own
statement

no it was not hdtv. it would need to be 16:9 (which it was not)
and at least 1280 x 720p true rez in usa. neither of which that
episode was from start to finish.

let me guess we can take a 32 x 32 pixel gif animation and upsample
it into hdtv space and call it hdtv because we stretched it
to 16:9 1280 x 720 so it must be real hdtv.

get real lol

it never claimed to be a hdtv release, but sourced from one, as far as i am aware.

absolutely not. that would be like taking an over the hill, out of work,
talentless actor and making him president. oh, hang on... you already did that.
(won't even comment on george w. not worth the effort)

a nuke usually happens when the cap has been incorrectly performed. that wasn't
the case with the friday night release. the source broadcast had the error, not
the cap.

incorrect. you can not release something and ***call it hdtv*** when it is not.
that is why the nuke. now 0tv could have called it pdtv or do what they did
and "internal" it.

i stand corrected. i thought the capper was being blamed for the mistake in the
original broadcasting, and thus being called upon to nuke.

i for one would be the first to raise my hand about not knowing anything about
how 'the scene' works or any of the myriad rules. just thankful for all the
guys and gals who put in the effort.

i do have some background in signal processing however, and understand why it is
scientifically impossible to create what we usually expect from a 350mb rip
downsampled from a (usually) hdtv signal. (unless there's a capping group out
there who's managed to break shannon's law)

as far as i understand this is correct. while the "frame" was hd (the physical
size of the broadcast was in the correct ratio and the correct size) the actual
view port (or image) wasn't. this doesn't mean that it wasn't hd. the way i
would see that would mean it is still hd; but just with black bars around it.

it is like when showtime airs an older movie on the hd channel. it is still hd,
however it will have black bars on the sides to fill the 16:9.

i dunno, i don't claim to be an expert; and i'm really happy for the new 720p
release (heading over to grab it), but that's just the way i see it.

some of you doods make me laugh throwing words like "scene"
around.

ah, yet another fellow who gets so agitated about nothing. no-one's claiming to
be part of the scene here. yet the shows we download are coming from those guys
and it's some scene ruleset that determines whether a release will be called
proper or not. we here can't change that, that's why it's still important for
us to exchange information about the releases and whether they have quality
problems or not, etc...

believe it or not, but some people here not only watch the tv rips, but are
also archiving them for the years to come. naturally those people want the best
quality release they can get, because there's no guarantee those will still be
available in a few years. so if you please have us have our chat about the
releases, mkay?
strom Posted at 14/05/2008, 06:53
whatever it is i just have to say british cappers are the dog's bollocks. for a
350mb cut, it's over the top!

awesome job bia.
Mike. Posted at 14/05/2008, 08:25
this version looks a lot better, especially in full screen, even in the section
where both are supposed to be hdtv. and it's not just bsg, all shows look better
on skyone than scifi. even if it will be a few days late "they" should consider
changing their source (thanks for the proper btw).
comparison:

crappy scifi.

i think that it has to do with the better quality of skyone
vs. scifi wherever
is received and capped.

i will see if something can be done with the "powers that be" but do not hold
your breath...

great, count me in on the people who rather wait 2-3 days and get a skyone cap.
hope to see more uk captures here.
madboobs Posted at 14/05/2008, 12:20
why wait 4 3 days... this is the first time that i know of that the rip
wasn\'t good or what everrr

thanx for the cap and the upload keep up the good work :d

buy the dvd/blu-ray boxsets when they come out. these also ensure that the shows
keep getting produced. a lot of people who download shows also buy boxsets when
they become available.

burnt stuff won't last for years to come, i haven't been impressed with the data
retention of home burnt discs.

the problem though is you do not know for sure who is and who is not.
many come here to get feed back. this is a great place to see
if a release has glitches that were missed during a quick scan.

i totally agree with you, and i think that is what should be done. what bugs me
is the "eliteist" attitude of some posters of comments (this thread to date
excluded) who seem to be of the opinion they are l33t because they rip/download
torrents of tv shows. lets be honest here, we all know the guilty parties.
anyone who thinks that torrents are l33t, is a seriously misguided individual
imho

at the end of the day, i really couldn't give a damn who gets a show capped and
out to the masses first or in a slightly higher resolution... and imho what
other people think what's "l33t" and not, doesn't bloody matter.
TheKJB Posted at 15/05/2008, 16:51
i can't believe everyone's arguing about this like it's the first time it has
ever happened. i've been watching shows in hd for a few years now and i can
tell you that screwups like this are extremely common. especially during
sporting events and network programs that have just come out of a local break or
are getting ready to go into the local news. switching from sd to hd is
something that has yet to be perfected on an automatic basis and the board
engineers who do it manually pay a minimal amount of attention, usually looking
at the sd monitor to check for transmission issues (like being off the air).
it'll get better as we get closer to the mandatory switch over date but until
then, get used to seeing it happen from time to time.

see, it was possible! i guess we really shouldn\'t \"be glad we get
bg at all
for free yadayadayada...\" like all those pc-idiots told us in the comment
section of the (should-be) nuked episode 406.

eh... sorry, but: get a life. i am glad that i got the episode at all;
being in the planet\'s asshole, i would only watch it much later, when the pirate
dvds are released, if it wasn\'t for this site. (yeah, i can\'t even get legal
dvds here.) and no way i\'m ungrateful enough to complain about a scan that, 1,
was quite well done under the circumstances, and 2, was clearly marked as
internal and had the problem clearly stated, just because the network screwed up
the original airing.

scanners are really cool people in my book and i owe them a lot. but wtf is up
with all the slamming one another? who seriously gives half a frak who
scans something first?

ontheteam Posted at 17/05/2008, 00:03
just a comment on source quality... i particularly like the releases that use
skyone as their source. no chopped transitions or cut scenes.

i haven't really paid much attention to who releases what, but are there
specific groups that record from skyone or is it pretty much random? how do we
get more skyone-sourced releases?
