okay, so you're transferring over to ssl encryption. this raises a few questions
on my part that i would love to see answered:

1. will the old, unencrypted site be run alongside the new one?
2. will this affect the trackers utilized by eztv in any way, or is this simply
about the website?
3. what key benefits would using this new site bring? i realize that monitoring
traffic between visitors and the site will be harder, but can anyone seriously
be brought up on charges for visiting eztv.it? the site hosts no illegal content
per se.
4. the procedure to install the security certificate on firefox seemed
exceedingly complicated based on skimming through the instructions. this is
because of the free certificate, correct? is it possible to simplify the
installation of said certificate and are there any plans to do so in the future?

i guess what this boils down to, is i'm wondering if switching over to the
encrypted site is worth the hassle.

there is no hassle with firefox, simply visit ht tps://eztv.it/

firefox will ask you what you want to do, just accept the certificate permanently.

if you find any links pointing back to http:// please send me a pm with the
page you were on and the link so i can fix it up.

we don't run trackers, so we can't update anything on them.

as for the proceedure, this is because we use cacert.org for our ssl
certificates.

well i'm running firefox 3.0 and i get this alert if i try to connect to
ht tps://eztv.it/:

"eztv.it:443 uses an invalid security certificate.

the certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown.

(error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)"

how do i get the certificate to work?

i got warnings that the certificates were not recognized and i just told it to
shut up and manually made it accept them. then, voila! i surf hxxps with
style. not sure what the exact advantage will be as yet, but it somehow feels
cooler...

okay, so i transferred over to the encrypted site. i would still be interested
in hearing what caused this interest in increased protection, and what the
intended benefits of it are. or is it like divingtech said, and it's only
intended to make surfing here feel cooler.

if you type htt_ps://eztv.it into you browser
it will give you the error "htt_ps://eztv.it:443" and thats all

how ever:

if you acess a page first and then put the s in the ht_tp// it will bring up a
diffrent message. for example goto ht_tp://eztv.it/index.php?main=showlist
then change it to ht_tps://eztv.it/index.php?main=showlist.
you will get this error

"
secure connection failed.

eztv.it uses an invalid security certificate.
the certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown.
(error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)

* this could be a problem with the server's configuration, or it could be
someone trying to impersonate the server.

* if you have connected to this server successfully in the past, the error
may be temporary, and you can try again later.

"or you can add an exception…"
"
click on "add exception" and then it will change into two buttons
"get me out of here" and "add exception"
choose add exception

in the next screen it will have "server location" change it so it just says
"ht_tps://eztv.it" and click "get certificate"

you can then view the certificate and or click "conferm security exception"

and your done.

hope this helps
