afaik fx isn't broadcast in hd, i know comcast doesn't have it in hd here in fresno, ca. and even if it is, i doubt the shield would be. they use a 25 mm camera or something like that to give it that gritty feel. the creator does this on purpose. this is one rare exception where i don't mind the show not being in hd. as for the show itself, i was a huge fan from season 1, but not sure how i feel about the direction of the last couple of seasons. also, it is tough to keep up with all that is going on in this episode, as it was so damn long ago since all that shit happened and air'd. a lot happened in last season, and without refreshing my brain before tonight, made it tough to keep up with the story line at times. all in all, this was a decent episode, and upcoming previews show tons of promise. |

yeah, agreed, way too long a break, they've done this a number of times with the shield, it's a shame because i think it deserves much more acclaim than it gets from the "main stream" viewers and critics alike. thanks for the notes on the 25mm thing, i'd forgotten about that... but still, there is no excuse for broadcasting it in 4:3 i was surprised by that, i assume the 0tv release is also in 4:3 and yes, the networks i "think" have been re-running the last season to get people back up to speed... i did think it lost it's way a little after the first 3 seasons, however, i guess it's a "big picture" thing, and i feel having watched this episode that they seem to be back on track, and hopefully will start to tie up all the lose ends, 13 episodes is not a lot of time to wind up the show and i think we can expect the episodes to be fairly fast paced... so for those with memory problems, go grab the dvd and start refreshing have seasons 1-6 on dvd and will definitely be getting season 7 when it's available, it's just such a shame to know this was in the can long ago, and we've had a big drought lately due to the writers strike, and now heading into the fall season we have lots of good series returning... i'd have much rather seen this aired earlier when there was a lot of crap on, then you'd really see it's popularity take off. that all said, i am glad its finally back and we get to see the completion of one hell of a project |

they dont film the show in hd. they use the same camera's and film they have used since it started. the grainy effect is on purpose to make it seem more realistic. in a way its nice that they didnt change the way it was shown in the middle or last season. kinda silly when you see shows change from sd 4:3 to hd 16:9 right in the middle. although if they started shooting in hd from the get go and people watched it in hd then it would really look like your in on the action. but at the time there was maybe 5 out of 100 people that had an hd set and hd sub. |

that's the way the show appeared on f/x hd network. lot of intended grain and underexposure in the texture, too. needless to say, this opener rocked and was well worth the wait. |

no excuse? it's called continuity and artistic direction. if you don't like it, don't watch it. it's about the story, not the slickness or special f/x. |

oh boo hoo, how did we ever enjoy tv before hd or color? guess i need to throw away all my \"twilight zone\" & \"star trek: tos\" dvds because the production values aren\'t up to today\'s standards. /sniffs |
