best ports

i have a large bandwidth yet i cannot acheive fast downloads for some apparent reason. i am relatively new
to torrents and love them.

i am on a mac using transmission. i read somewhere that to chaneg the port to a bigger number to
achieve faster downloads, is this true and what would you guys suggest ?

- and you may find help on the subject,

all i can say is never use the default port 6881-6889 because isp always
throttle those to stop this activity, in my case i regularly change my port
(monthly) between 10000 and 60000

that was my advice above.. not aydin... got hit with that login bug again.

i have utorrent set to chose a random port every time it starts up. works fine
for me 🙂

also make sure that your upload speed isn't set to max. some bt clients such as
azureus have the ability to regulate it automatically. if your client on the
other hand doesn't support such a feature open a shell (command line) and ping
the web server of your isp while setting your upload speed. as you use more of
your available bandwidth you'll see your ping times go up. keeping them below
200ms usually renders an optimal result without completely shutting out your
ability to use your line for web browsing for instance. the faster your download
the lower (with-in reason) you'll have to set your relative upload speed in
order to maintain high down speeds. find a reasonable balance so you're also
seeding at a reasonable speed while leeching. when your file is done let it
continue to at least a 1:1 ratio or a couple of hours if you've reached that
ratio before or early after completion.
