in stargate new characters usually show up as aliens. they'll find a planet with
some humans on it, save them from something, one alien either is so thankful or just has nowhere
else to go, so he decides to join the team. presto chango! new cast member. death and/or
imprisonment by the ememy can get rid of a member already there.

yeah, i was wondering how long until the sgu version of tealc/teyla/ronan turns up.

sadly, this is the first season of stargate that i won't be impatiently waiting all
week for.

my feelings summed up in one sentence.

sorry, much of the early info said no picking up alien crew members, with the format i'd say it may be
one plot point that stays true, although when current cast members are not working, you have to
wonder if that will go out the window in season 2, if it gets a second season.

having just said that, if your after spoilers, look at some future episode descriptions over at tvdotcom,
could be something come about to change current cast dynamics at some point.

solar panels could be used. solar panels in ancient tech would probably produce more power way more
effieciently than what you're thinking of. the goal of the ship is to seed other planet's right? why
not slap some solar panels onto the hull, so that it can soak up every bit of energy it can while
it's in a solar system?

keep in mind that dwarf stars do produce more energy and more exotic particles than normal stars do,
since they are more dense and must produce an exponential amount of energy to keep from collapsing in
on itself.

even with our non-sophisticated photovoltaic technology today, a huge range of the em spectrum can
be used to generate a current. all you need is an energy value above the semiconductor's operating
threshold.

i simply bet that there will be some deus ex machina to save the day.
