Just looking for some advice. I am using Nord VPN for my VPN service. I am using qbitorrent for the use of being able to download through a browser to a server. But in this case, this browser was not used. As I remoted into that server to download this file directly on the server and not through the browser. My issue is this. I still got a copywrite notice downloading from this site twice. I have kill switch enabled. I can verify the VPN didnt go down. But it was able to get my information. I dont remember the first one. But this one just happened so I thought Id ask. The torrent was NCIS.S23E10.720p.HDTV.x264- SYNCOPY[EZTVx.to].mkv Is there something im missing? this is only recent. For the past two years I havent had this issue and its only been the past month or so ive come across this. Anyone else? Suggestions? Where I live its only a slap on the hand unless you're getting A LOT of notices then they'll put a restriction on your IP. Just trying to prevent this. Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

Invest in an inexpensive cloud torrent like one of the Debrids or premiumize.me and get rid of a useless vpn.

Or, you could simply download over 4G LTE or 5G [mobile]. I haven't had a torrenting problem ever since I started doing this myself!

Hi @Gallexy,

Even with a VPN, torrent clients can still leak your real IP if not configured correctly. BitTorrent clients like qBittorrent create many connections and can automatically switch to your regular network interface if the VPN drops. Additionally, they can broadcast your IP through features like DHT (Distributed Hash Table), Peer Exchange (PEX), and Local Peer Discovery.

To reduce the risk of copyright notices, follow these steps to configure qBittorrent:

  1. Open qBittorrent and go to Tools > Options (Preferences).

  2. In the Behaviour tab, tick 'Enable anonymous mode'. This will prevent the client from sending detailed information to trackers.

  3. In the BitTorrent tab, set 'Encryption mode' to 'Require encryption'. Then, uncheck the options for DHT, Peer Exchange (PEX), and Local Peer Discovery. This ensures your IP isn’t broadcast through these features.

  4. In the Advanced tab, find the 'Network Interface' drop-down and select your VPN adapter (e.g., 'NordVPN TAP' or similar). This binds qBittorrent to the VPN, preventing it from using your regular connection if the VPN disconnects.

  5. Restart qBittorrent and test by disconnecting your VPN. The client should show no active connections if the binding works.

Also, double-check that the server you're remoting into is using the VPN. If it isn’t, your ISP's IP will still be visible.

If you'd like to avoid torrenting altogether, consider using a seedbox or cloud torrent service. These services download the file for you, and you can then fetch it via HTTPS, keeping your IP hidden.

Hope this helps!
