bevis, i think you set the tone when you said this addition 'has wrecked the usability of the main page'. if you do this feedback for a living, then you should know better than to make such extreme statements. it is still usable! we jump to the site's defense because your choice of words were attacking a free service. that and the fact that it was about something as trivial as a date/time stamp which (as a mac user) you should be able to get around other ways (use dashboard and it's widgets, then it's a one button push to check the time). as you said, "up there for thinking". sorry about the 'name-calling' (just used your name!) but you have to admit that if you choose an online moniker like that, people will automatically associate it with the pop culture references. feel free to splat my name for a laugh if you want: zpm.. umm... zits please me, zebras plead murder, zero point module... enough said. peace to you too. |

i agree with soulrebel2008 - that was also unnecessary trolling from adritch. maybe it's better to be rid of him, if that's his attitude. zpm, i initially wrote a response to your comment above, but decided to delete it rather than further the argument. nk requested we keep this thread on topic, so i'm honoring that. |

and yet another insult. behave, please. as for the clock issue: if you use firefox (and there's no reason why not), there is an addon which displays different time zones, that you can choose. i for example have gmt, cet and us pacific. no scrolling needed. always in view. i also understand why people reacted on bevis's note, because to me it sounded pretentious. look at me, how well-educated i choose my words... petty. there were so many spelling mistakes. and one or two on grammar, too. |

you can easily convert it to a diffeent format using variety of programs (handbreake, xilisoft) and simply change resolution to a lower one. h264 is just another codec which you can install (ffdshow for example) or use software like kmplayer, vlc player. probably the high resolution is killing your machine. as for the show it will be a waste of time to reencode it. this documentary is super boring and watching it is like wasting 20 mins of your life. you could have as much "fun" as watching this if your friend videotaped some of his bathroom floor, some yard and shown it to you. |

very interesting film, though it seemed to me that the film-maker was having a hard time understanding the restrictions about filming (even though there was no narrative stating that explicitly, the shots and statements he included lead me to believe that). i think it would be a bad idea to give the press free reign over gitmo, the fact is, we're fighting in a war (right or wrong, that's another topic). in war, we capture people (i think that's a good thing, better than just killing everyone, no?) if these captured individuals were then sent to gitmo with the knowledge of locks, camera positions, guard schedules, guard identities, etc, it might be possible to stage an escape, or even blackmail via threats to family. surely we can all agree this would be bad? now the real problem with these detentions is that they are kinda based on the old school nation/state enemy we used to fight. we keep them prisoner until their nation is defeated, we deem them no longer a threat, or we do a prisoner swap. well, there is no "nation" to be defeated, it's really, really hard to determine they are no longer a threat (because their ideology is religiously based, kind of hard to reform), and the other guys we're fighting seem happier to chop off heads than get a prisoner exchange (or else they demand 3000 prisoners for one of our soldiers). so what do we do? all we can really do is modify the process to try and prevent accidentally detaining people who shouldn't be. maybe one day we can return them to their home, when they can give up the dream of the islamic caliphate returning, but that's unlikely. |

 @ stillatcalvin's post and excuses, but for the subject it's not that bad i guess, you expect even worse posts, and plenty of fights. just thought i'd give my view since he went through the trouble of making a lengthy post and i have diametrically opposite views and you want to keep things balanced a bit |

its an interesting doc, i enjoyed seeing the premises of "gitmo". i would have never expected that they actually have tv's and videos that they play for the inmates, that is news to me. its also funny to point out how the guards kept on throwing in "safe and humane treatment of inmates" like it was their job. i would like to see much more, this was definitely a tease, it shows much, but no story point or drive, no narrative really, except for a short clip when the director has to sensor his stuff. it was definitely educational to say the least. but i want to see more of gitmo, i know their security is second to none and filming inside is strictly regulated, but maybe talking to an inmate or having an interview with one of the inmates would have been interesting. also i would like to hear more about how the guards adapt to what the inmates end up doing to pass the time. like making shivs out of soft plastic utensils and salt to make it harder and lethal. cheers, gene |

i think guantanamo bay is awesome and absolutely neccesary to let people know we will do whatever it takes to get vital information. if we didnt have a place like this people would tread all over us. i hope it never gets closed down. |

i have to agree... and with sheik kalid and the other hardcore qaida's being sent to chicago to stand trial in front of a civilian court the gitmo prison seems to be closing down rather sooner than later...! |

nice teaser waiting for the real thing. very informative part about combining toilet paper and salt to make a 'weapon' that could injure the guards - 'it's a constant battle'... definitely beats macgyver lol.. anyways didn't look as bad as i thought it would be. tv, fridge even a bed pointing towards mecca! but one thing i really missed in the documentary.. where are all the terrorists!!?? |

so what's your view? i didn't see a post by you other than to say you disagree . . . which doesn't mean all that much. i hate how people criticize others for name calling and veiled insults while they or others with similar viewpoints do much the same thing without being called out. it's not excuses. the us is in a non-traditional, guerilla war. what do you expect the us to do with enemy combatants? kill them? an isolated prison like gitmo is necessary. i'm not saying anything about their treatment or selection to be detained there (or what got us in this situation). my biggest gripe with the 'documentary' (and i haven't even watched it) is the last statement in the summary, which is blatantly wrong. barack obama has not ordered guantanamo bay detention camps to be closed. if he did, they would be closed. he's the commander-in-chief and has the ultimate authority of the military. the mere suggestion that he could order it closed and not have that order followed shows a gross lack of knowledge about the american military/government system. he may have promised to close it in his campaign, but that's a lot different from giving the order as president. |

good to see tolerance being demonstrated here and user being banned xd just like the 'tolerance' showed by the united states of lets make war profitable for our friends in haliburton etc. so i suppose this poster had his point proven xd. by the way i found this film amateurish and incredibly boring, sad thing is the soldiers talking in this film possibly believe the drivel they were spouting about "the care" that the "detainee's" are "provided" with. peace out and please dont ban me xd |
