my daughter loves sg1 and atlantis and is constantly watching the dvds but she will not entertain this
program at all. she thinks it is bloody boring and makes me watch them in case it gets better but at the
moment no luck.

zapperz, surely it's got more chance being a different series, sg1 & atlantis both got
cancelled...
what would be the point rehashing them with a younger team - you might as well get fox to sign the
series.

i wouldn't use sg1 and atlantis in that regard, neither show got canceled due to lack of viewership.
never said i was expecting a clone of either show, just expecting them to remain true to the
concept of stargate. this show isn't it, might as well have abandoned the stargate brand all
together and named this show something else. obviously they hoped to keep stargate's fan base, but
for this fan it isn't working.

if i wanted a drama there's no shortage of them on the networks. i had hoped for a decent scifi
show, this isn't one imho. this show belongs on cw or even abc.

umm, then don't use the stargate theme and go with "in space no one can hear you yawn." as a tag line.

call it "lost in space, the god awful rip off" but don't drag stargate into it. "danger, danger eli
wallace. dr rush, what are you doing. ha ha ha."

face it, cooper right now is pissing himself that this will get canned before it's allocated 20
episodes.

serves him right. bring back atlantis. finish it properly, with a real ending... no river, no water,
dry as a desert. darkness all around, boring this is sheppard...

Jesusfreaks711 Posted at 21/11/2009, 16:27
"surely this has a better chance than atlantis...." wth???? have you even seen the show? are you on
drugs? atlantis and sg1 brought in a ton of viewers, while this one is quickly driving them away. and
you think it should just be better by default?

you know i really hate it when at the end of a show you can try to remember something awesome that
happened, and you come up with nothing. that is the case here. i wouldn'teven bother torturing myself
if there was anyother option to replace it. not sure if anyone has checked out that tv show "v", but it is
pretty good. way better than this junk. but that is it, i'm down to one decent sci-fi show, i would have
at least liked 2.

here's a huge point. they call the show stargate universe, but the stargate is barely
used. most of the time it just sits in the backgound!!!!

it is their single best tool to boost their ratings. the gate is a door to the new and unexplored, but
instead of using this they'de rater focus on the drame on the ship. they use the stones like a
replacement for the gate. come on guys, that was mearly a prop in the old series. it has 1/10th the
potential than the stargate. on top of that, everytime they go through the gate there is nothing really
interesting on the other side. the planets they gate to lack imagination, they're just plain. (desert,
artic, jungle, etc.) the planets should not be able to be summed up in a single word, if they are than
that is plain boring.

then after all this they find a chair... like it is supposed to be interesting. from many episodes of
stargate sg1 we already know what it does. the same way we already knew what the stones did.
(communication) there has been nothing that has been new or intriging other than the ship itself. and
even the ship itself isn't that special. it's mostly broken and barely hanging in there on autopilot and
there doing their best to keep it going, right? to me that sounds like a few cars i used to own. i can
hear adam sandler singing his song in my head right now, "...pos car, i got a pos car, never gets me
very far..."

let's face it, i've said this before but i believe it to be the case in every episode, "it's a futuristic broke
down pos car, and the cast from "scream" and "the blair witch project" is stuck aboard and boring us
to death."

let me tell you what happes this episod, nothing !!!
40 min of nothing.
and by the way, there was no stargate here, just in beckground maybe.
i love stargate but this is something else!

is what im saying since the second episode, the best was the fight in the first episode, and the
previous one when the snakes kill them all.
im agree that eli is a great character.
but the show keeps going nowhere, like i said before, is bsg + firefly but with no fights.
9 episodes of 20, the show is so boring at the moment that with lucky could stand to episode 15.
crazyivan Posted at 21/11/2009, 22:12
i think we need hbo to save us. in a couple of years the cost of cgi will drop enough for whatever
they develop to be viable. maybe something like a breakfast club for tech offenders, i dunno.
Elnorel Posted at 22/11/2009, 03:11
well its same crap like galactica is. drama, drama and more drama. mix 1% of action into it and
bang youve got viewers.

still to this day i have no clue why galactica had such a large audience. baffles me to this day.

sgu is same sh1t.
Worpe Posted at 22/11/2009, 08:59
here's my suggestion for a plotline:
they search more of the ship and discover there's some emo-device which seems to be the ancient
version of days-of-our-lives tv, and it's blasting on full and even leaking through the
communication stones, they switch it off... and find they get rapidly better and their brains start
to work again.

Kargor Posted at 22/11/2009, 10:52
well, i think to make sgu work they will have to give them control over the ship --- problem being
they don't seem to advance into that direction. it's mentioned in just about every episode that rush
is trying to research the ship and trying to "break" the "master code", but nothing is actually done
to show that, it just feels like talk.

also, if they turn the ship around and head back to earth it won't be any faster than before --- so
giving them control over the ship doesn't really change the predicament they are in, which means it
won't kill the show. unless they are planning a few million seasons.

along the same lines, being able to operate the ship is still a lot different from being able to
undo millions of years of deterioration on a technology they are rather unfamiliar with, so there is
no reason why they would have to be able to dial back to earth anytime soon. they can get scientific
advice from earth via the stones, but they can still create a number of problems --- technology
being much older than the one "known" on earth, which means it needs a lot of research. or simply a
material/resource problem. and how do you manufacture parts without any infrastructure to that end?

if they add an enemy or two then it would be even easier to delay that even more, as they would have
a believeable reason to concentrate on engines, offense and defense system rather than the ability
to channel incredible amounts of energy to the stargate. it would add a reason why they are not
working 24/7 on the getting-home problems. i just hope they delay the getting-home using smarter
setups than the good old "we are ready to dial... enemy attacks... main power conduit is destroyed
and needs at least a year to rebuild".

as far as stargates are concerned, with control over the ship they could treat whatever galaxy they
are in as their "home base". i don't know whether anything has been stated about how many stargates
are being seeded --- so far it's always been established that a stargate network pretty much works
within a single galaxy only, requiring huge amounts of energy to dial to other galaxies which the
bread-and-butter stargates on the planets can't provide. it's pretty clear that they don't have this
kind of energy, but if there are just a handful of stargates in the galaxy they end up in then it
won't really bring the stargates back into the show as they would still have to use the ship all the
time to go anywhere.

of course, a number of other storylines could be imagined, such as the earth guys getting into a
situation where they feel the need to help a civilization advance. so far, we've always had tons of
primitive civilizations on the sidelines --- but what if they create a situation where the earth
guys basically need to massively violate the prime directive (yes, i know there's no prime directive
in stargate, but i would assume the general idea exists as well). after all, they can't just phone
home and request reinforcements...

etc. etc... so i do think the show can be made to work. question is, what are they actually going to
do...

well, you're not alone in coming to that conclusion after watching
bsg, it seems every network exec and producer has too and is trying to emulate it, with this, v,
flash forward, defying gravity etc.

thing is though; you're all wrong.

bsg was 60% compelling plot driven drama, 30% action and 10% shippy stuff. all these new
shows that try to emulate bsg seem to totally neglect a fast paced, compelling sci-fi story line to
hang the rest of the show off and just end up with pointless drama and cloying shippy crap.

Worpe Posted at 23/11/2009, 01:10
'v' is a remake of the 1984 'v' show, so to say they are emulating stargate or bsg is quite stupid,
and flashforward isn't a scifi/space show at all and has nothing to do in any way with these shows.
and defying gravity is also clearly not taking anything from any of these shows, you can't go and
claim anything with some drama is 'emulating galactica', unless you first have your readers take a
lot of drugs maybe.
you could say that stargate universes is trying to take some of the 'grittiness' of bsg, but nothing
of the actual feel of the writing surely, and the non-action stuff in bsg was a whole different
class and style than this, this show is revolving around a bunch of losers with low intellect who
are all fucked up in the head from birth rather than from anything happening in the storyline, which
can be interesting but not if you deal with losers, the damn characters in big brother are more
interesting than this..

how long is this series going to last???

ever resourceful, wiki says the first season is planned to consist of 20 episodes. and creator/producer
brad wright is hopeful that the show will last three or more seasons.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/list_of_stargate_universe_episodes

not f'n likely, at the rate they're crashing. i'll be surprised if they keep this wreck going to the end of
the first season. at this point, i'm just hoping this show doesn't kill the stargate ip altogether.

bsg was always coined as a sci-fi/soap opera mix, 'space opera'. every sci-fi since (and,
yes, ff is sci-fi) has been injected with vile amounts of soap opera style drama, so i'm gonna blame
bsgs success for that. but yeah, a direct connection is a bit hard to make.

maybe it's a perception thing. there's pre and post bsg, everything post seems lame so far.
DoobieDoobieDoo Posted at 28/11/2009, 06:01
you all a bit stupid ?

"my bwain hurts cause i have to listen to that talking stuff and try and wemember stuff - need
explosions and shooting and stuff..."

and btw v and 'bsg' are just as crappy as they were first time round.

someone needs to kick ass and get us some original content not remakes of progs - v & bsg lol -
what next ? remakes of mork and mindy ?
