the "cliff hangar" ending wasn't the "only" bad thing about episode 01x08 ... the logic of the writers is/was "flawed" ... the idea suggests the co-existance of an identical self traveling through time and living out your life ahead of your own self .... this misguided concept only exists in the minds of those who "wallow" in crass fiction. sure, sg.u is "science fiction" ... i accept and understand that... however up until that 01x08 episode most of the scripts were fairly plausable, on a [stargate] sci-fi level. the 01x08 episode proved to me {if not to others} the limited imaginations of the writers / directors / producers ... and in-so-doing undermined my will to continue. it was only on the advice of a fellow sg fan [whom incidentaly missed 01x08] that i started watching it again .. and even then i had to play "catch up" for a while as 3 episodes had passed me by. 01x08 and 01x17 are 2 episodes that i will be avoiding in future [i like to watch the decent ones, one after the other, on a sci-fi night with my friends], as both caused me "pain". i doubt that 01x18 will explain why 01x17 exists ... much like 01x09 didn't explain why 01x08 exists [though i hope it will]... . i also expect the writers / producers / directors have some pre-designed sophist explanation for them, but as yet, i personally "can't be bothered" to contact them and ask ... it would be a bit like asking government why they maintain the belief that "anyone" who comes forward claiming to "be" christ is insane .... whilst also maintaing the claim that they themselves "are" christian. the answer is simple : in thier world "they" are "god" ... and can therefore [according to them] do anything that they like. there will be more 01x08 + 01x17 style episodes to come .... and like them [for me, if not for you] they will end up in my "recycle bin". [shame i can't do the same with anti-christian, false-god worshiping governments]. se la vie. |

lol, what are you talking about za-ha-doon, they used one of the most widely used concepts of time travel. ...the same one they have used in sg1 and atlantis. not to mention the star trek series and who knows how many other shows/movies involving time travel. there is no "co-existance" of a future self, you have only the past, present and a possible, non-existent future. it is the most basic method of time alteration, you in the present, send information, like a note, video, etc... into the past to alter what is currently your present. once the past is changed, your present is now gone, you cease to exist. the past used the information from the possible, now non-existent future, the future that would have happened if time was unaltered, to try and change whatever bad thing happened in the alternate, non- existent future. in the case of episode 1x08, information and a person traveled into the past. so that information and person were outside of the future timeline, hence they didn't cease to exist when the alternate future ceased to exist. that is the more common concept vs the (rather silly) concept used in the "back to the future" movies for example, where you are tied to your future so if you alter your past, you and your future cease to exist. |
