i've been following this show throughout its development. i must say, i enjoyed it, but admittedly it has its
downside. the mish-mash of timelines and perspectives could easily become confusing, something lost
ended up doing. the biggest difference is that the first couple of seasons of lost were, in contrast to the
final seasons, easier to follow and understand, whereas the event seems to be straining your mind from
the get-go.

i'm going to keep watching, and hope answers do start flowing out, otherwise, sadly to say, this will be cancelled very quickly, as american audiences are losing patience with new shows very easily.

the best tool this pilot has utilized is a massive cliffhanger ending, that does leave audiences scratching
their heads. had it been lacking a cliffhanger ending, it would have been very easy to tune out straight
away.

don't judge a book by its cover, or the first page. read a few pages until you get a feel of it, and then
make your criticisms and decisions.

what? you didn't make a connection to the characters? but they gave the segments title cards with the characters' names...
(as if they were already important to us somehow). now if only i can remember what all their names are i can get psyched
for the next episode.
kingdarko Posted at 21/09/2010, 20:12
^ that was a huge problem for me, i could not give two shits about anyone on the show there was no
connecting to them. if you find that having their name on the screen helps you then congrats you
simpleton.

please goldeneagle999 don't compare this show to rubicon.

well, 23 mins ago it went... no wait, 11 days ago it went... no wait, 13 months it went...
no wait, 17 years ago it went... no wait, 150 years ago it went...

it took long enough for the plane to go 88 mph before the flux capacitor fired up.

actually, they could have learned a lot about story telling by watching bttf.

waste of bandwidth and time! (i'm sounding like a broken record here!)

no flow to the story (they jumped back and forward in time so many times so that the average viewer
is so confused they can't see how crap the plot is!!)

that whole episode could have been told in 24mins if the didn't use the time jumps too many times!!
how i would have editied it!:
follow the guy in the planes story for leaving on the holiday, till entering the plane (26 mins)
then follow the president's story from them talking him out of the press conference (16 mins)
last few mins follow laura linney's character's interview then jump to the events inside the plane
and the press at the end...

better flow, people can follow it and my like it!
the way they are going it looks like it will be lucky to survive past episode 4!

* possible spoilers *

darn, missed the conversation over here, i posted to the 720p version.

the slicing and dicing of the timeline was pure affectation, how did it help tell the story?

i was looking forward to this and am severely disappointed, first time an anticipated pilot actually
irritated me. the density of the plot, how many things actually occur was very light. this was a
four alarm fire sort of failure, what were the producers thinking? where are the characters, let
alone the character motivation? what happened really? a plane disappeared, seemingly part of some
conspiracy. why can't those folks focus on a more fruitful target, say replace the universal lot
with a green field.....

i'll give it another episode, but i suspect this dog won't bark.

i can't believe i am going to compare it with lost but i for one imagine that they want to use the
same recipe: - keep the viewer confused, intrigued and yet entertained, which the pilot does not
provide. as someone else wrote here : it is a longer version of the promo. back to the lost recipe
we find out about there are the oh so mysterious others (at the end when that lady says "they saved
us"). i imagine they are going to keep this approach - the film student editing technique and the
somewhat unrelated cliffhanger and slap the viewer with an occasional answer that hopefully would
make us go: whoa! weeeee! etc.
- i pretty sure the show is tapping where fringe has gone before (not to mention star trek) -
alternate universe
one other thing, as i posted before they are trying too hard to overdo everything (except the story
consistency). on that note why is the president named martinez? i get it the us has an ethnic
president. it looks like a silly way to kill two birds with one stone. why not do it more" -say he
and his family is from cuba, keep him black and his wife hispanic and give him an asian name. ) DungeonRaider Posted at 22/09/2010, 08:06
what'd be good for a laugh would be watching it re-cut into chronological order!

(one redeeming feature is sarah roemer, though she was rather underused in this) BrockAlexander Posted at 26/09/2010, 21:14
actually this show has some potential. will reserve judgment for at least 3-4 episodes fuffer Posted at 05/10/2010, 16:37

seems to me it's like rubicon, except this time there is the girlfriend involvement. i've not made
up my mind whether i give it a go or just overlook it! :/

seems to me like an overdramatic dumbed down version of rubicon. girlfriend abduction, friends with the president?
c'mon! that's a lot of bullshit so early in the show.
