i'd suggest you use peerguardian, the idea is it blocks ip addresses that have
been that have been deamed unsafe. i.e. belong to members of the riaa, mpaa or
such. at least thats the theory. cant say for sure it works but i've never had
a problem d/ling torrents.

how do you use peergardian just dowloaded it so if i start downloading tv
shows
it should block the bad ip like iraa and bays... or do i have to put them in
the peergardian list (peergardian mentionned that they are already on their
list

i use utorrent to dowload torrents is there anopther one that i can use
instead, just read that utorrent sells information

any suggestions?

thanks again

on a similar note, i use azureus with the 'safepeer' plugin. this plugin uses
the peerguardian database to block the ips, is using safepeer as good as using
peerguardian it self, or should i actually get it?

(well i live in the uk, so no real need at all, but still better to be safe
than sorry right?)

mchammer14: yes just install, update n run it. they have an extremely extensive
ban list so u should be ok. you can see whats been blocked in the history bit.
just make sure u update it regulaly and keep it running while u d/l.

i've never used utorrent so i cant comment on that, but i personally use
bitcomet. i've never had a problem with it, out of all the clients i've tried
it seems to give the best results when it comes to d/ling speeds, but i know
there are some trackers that block its use as it apparently hogs stuff lol.

overlords: hmm, i'd assume ur fine if u use that, just bare in mind that its
only going to filter traffic being used by that client. i feel safer to have
something filtering everything.

ah well i wouldn't be so sure about that, those guys can and will try to go
after
people, no matter what country they're in. so you cant be to safe.

ty for your help i will try that

my other question is should i unplugged my router while dowloading p2p

no theres no need to unplug it. of course though, having the port your client
is using to d/l on closed will effect performance and slow your d/l speeds.
you need to open the port on your router to allow traffic to flow properly. i
cant give you exact details on how to do this as i dont know what router your
using. go into your router's admin panel and use the port forwarding features
to open the port being used by your client (it will say the port its using
somewhere in the settings), to the ip of the machine your on. (if your not use
of the ip - start - run - cmd - ipconfig)

if you really want to be cautious download ip anonamous and you will be outed
through an high anonimity proxy server for free.
this is how i do it when i get overly paranoid; and yes i do use safepeer
with azureus but any pi worth his weight could easily figure an easy way around
that just monitor from home or some non network account.

progrmas like hide ip that use proxies dont do jack shit for bit torrent. i wish
people would stop giving out bad info. i'm not sure what "ip anonamous"
is but i doubt it does anything useful for p2p.

there are however programs that tunnel all of your computer's traffic through a
vpn...that's another layer of security that you may want to look into. nbc will
just see the vpns ip and your isp will just see encrypted traffic between you
and the vpn.

vpn = virtual private network. it's not a program. you basically remotely
connect to another network on the internet and it's as if you are on their lan
(local area network). you can do this by simply using windows xp itself. someone
else can give you more details, but just google vpn, you'll find lots of
information about the concept.

if you're looking for a free vpn service, you might try secureix.com

either way, you should always be using the safepeer plugin for azureus or
peerguardian. i've used the former for 3 years, and i download about 20+ shows a
week and i've never received any sort of notice.

just try out secureix and did a search about this guy. his trust level is
still an unknown answer. however it's surely better than your isp 😉
besides, the support service sucks, even in the forum. there's no guide on how
to port forwarding settings, etc...

peerguard still a good one.
