i'm seeing this on my transfer data. is this normal/acceptable? does it refer to
downloading, uploading or both? do i need to tweak something to stop this waste
from happening?

thanks in advance to whoever answers 🙂

unless the wasted x.xx is more than a couple of percent of the torrent size,
or the hash fails are more than, say, half a dozen or so then it's nothing to
worry about too much.

the "wasted" mostly refers to incomplete chunk segments that get abandoned
when a donating peer disconnects early, and the client has to re-ask for that
segment from a different peer.

the hash fails are when a chunk gets completed, but fails the crc verification
i.e. the hash value for the chunk doesn't match the expected signature.

again, it has to be re-downloaded.

thanks for the explanation kurai. it helps me understand utorrent better. the
amount is always much less than 1% of the torrents so i can stop feeling guilty
that i'm failing to seed back as much as i can. 🙂
