i mostly dl 350m files, mainly due to not being able to see that much of a
difference when viewed. however im getting a nice shiny hdtv soon, which im
sure ill find a way of connecting to the pc, then ill deffinetly dl 700meg eps.
i downloaded a 720p version of 24 the other week just to see if it made any
difference on a standard monitor, to be honest i couldnt see any difference
between that and a 700mb. the 700mb is however an inprovement on most 350mb on
my monitor so if i wasn't as impatient and my isp wasn't being an asshole then
that is all i would download. if i had an hdtv then i would either go for the
700mb or the 720p depending on if the 720 had a big enough improvement on the
700mb.
due to the fact that my isp is imposing a bandwidth cap on my service from 1st
of march i will only be downloading the 350mb hdtv versions
to those that argue about which version is better and why everyone should follow
you and download the "best" - give it a rest. it is a personal choice (and
sometimes one that is regulated by internet speeds and quota limits) about what
to download.
here's an idea - bigger isn't always better. if you try to watch a 700mb hr hdtv
episode on a 17" lcd monitor it looks exactly the same as the 300mb hdtv version.
no one cares if you have a 71" hr hd plasma screen that can do everything from
allow you to watch television to ... (well thats basically all a tv can do) so
why even tell us.
if you want to download the higher bandwith suckers then go for it but for the
rest of us that want the 350mb version so that we can watch the show before it
comes on to normal television (and i am australian so most of the time the shows
are either 6 months behind everyone else at minimum).
well i prefer the 350mb files of the rec 40~44min shows due the storage space on
dvds
sometime i dl the hr hdtv rips for the sound coz sometimes they'r a nice 5.1 but
there are too few releases in 5.1 as it would be worth perm dling those
@tompy: its not just u with 6month+ waiting time for those series to air they
air like 1 sometimes up too 2 years later then its originally aired(and than the
syncro sucks
im the same, if 350 is up then i will grab that and watch it, if the larger
one is up at the same time i will grab that, however once im done with the 350
i wil delete it and wait for the 700 to add to archive.
700mb-release meeans more work and time for me since the file is not watchable for me in this state on
my dvd-player.
so i have reencode it myself if only the big release is available. this sucks! reencode takes about 3 hours
or more on my machine.
i've noticed a slight difference between 350mb and 700mb on the normal 42 minute
lenght shows, but not enough to make it worthwhile dl'ing the bigger versions on
my lowly 192kb line. for longer shows, for instance top gear, that are a full
hour in length the 700mb version has a clear quality advantage over the 350mb
versions and i find preferable.
well ofc i also prefer the 700mb in terms of quality. but what shall i do with
it? i cant watch it on my standalone dvd player and for that im more then
willing to sacrifice quality. i dont own a extra silent-htpc connected to my tv
nor do i want to have another computer at all. the good thing with 350er xvids
is : i dl em, i burn em, i watch em on standalones - and i also can just go with
em to any friend of mine and watch them there too. in terms of compatiblity its
the best you can get.
