as far as i am aware it's not possible to password protect an avi file. i know it's a container format but password protection is not an option. if the file were compressed to zip or rar then it would be possible to password protect that but i've never seen anything coming from eztv which has been compressed although i may be wrong. this torrent however is vanilla avi and is therefore not password protected. it is possible you are being confused by a registration unlock feature on your video playback software. or possibly you might be referring to an xvid codec which requires registration and unlocking although i don't know of any commercial xvid decoders which require registration. both of these however are unrelated to the file posted here. probably best to try a free video player which has built-in xvid codec, e.g., videolan vlc or gom player. |

i guess my question now should be this: i just downloaded the daily show ( 176mb) in 18 minutes averaging 80 kbs. why is lost (349mb) only moving at a max of 15kbs and saying it will take me 5 hrs to dl? |

higher peers/seeds ratio lost very (probably the most) popular. lots of ppl trying to get it at once but don't worry it will pick up speed a little. (still, you may have to wait 2 hours or so). u said b4 it had no seeds so u just gotta wait for the popular stuff. also you can edit/delete ur own posts. (referring to your double-post) like i said in an above post, the previews look awesome so it's gonna be worth the wait. |

i always thought that it was a "the more the merrier" kinda thing. lotsa peers & lotsa seeders = fast speeds. especially lotsa seeders. is that not true? [just passing the time here while i wait to see the show. thanks for putting up with my posts everyone.] |

the seeders part is true, but if there's lots more leechers than seeders, that usually means a slower torrent. the way to combat this is to make sure you're connectable & to turn your upload speed up as high as possible for that torrent (not so high that it slows down your entire internet connection, but as high as you can get without doing that.) also, make sure you're using peerguardian or some other ip blocklist to make sure you're blocking out mediasentry & any other mpaa-sponsored fake peers. with good settings you should be able to get any recent eztv torrent in less than 2 hours or so (assuming you're not trying to download 5 at once on a slow connection or something). if you're still having trouble, try asking for help in a good torrent forum. personally, i've found the demonoid forums to be pretty helpful. (edit: or since you're a mac user, you could try macforum.torrentskickass.com it's a pretty good resource for all things mac/torrent-related, & you don't need an invite or anything to get into the forum. don't let them swindle you into paying for tracker access, though.) p.s. eztv doesn't password-protect files. if a file says it's from eztv & it asks for a password, it's a fake & you should probably delete it. if it didn't say it was eztv's (maybe it was perpetual nights' or something?) then the answer is simple: download the eztv release instead. usually you'll find you can get the exact same version from eztv, & the eztv releases are usually better-seeded. |

i'm in linux and i'm getting a prompt for a password too. after d/l'ing this thing, i've got an src folder with jpgs from another file it added, which is an html link to some kind of installable password generator. it's an .exe file so i couldn't run it even i wanted to. when i try to extract the .avi from the .rar it prompts for a password. |

for you out there with rar issues- only download the .avi tv shows or the rar files that are split into r00/r01/r02 etc. this rar kind is the scene release version and each rar file is usually 14.3mb or 19mb in size. for files in .rar format only, do not download them, its propably the netpumper guys giving you viruses etc. the avi files are from people like eztv. edit: scarlett, download the proper versions off eztv, im pretty sure that is one of those sites trying to get their hits up by posting that kind of stuff. i hate those people! :@ |

i got the first one off of btjunkie and the second one from here. both looked the same. tpb has finally posted a file for just an .avi which i\'m getting now. (and at the rate it\'s going so far, i should have it by tomorrow. *sigh*) now i just have to watch the tv version complete with commercials. times like this, i\\\'m glad i\'ve got penguin power on my side. what do you wanna bet that thing automatically installs itself and all its malware friends on a windows system without the user ever knowing? |
