OEM Vista Installation

i purchased an oem version of vista because it was a 10th of the retail cost,
problem is it has come with an oem preinstallation kit which looks like a
debacle at first glance.

can anyone tell me if i can ignore this kit and install vista normally.

i believe the kit simply provides you with a serial number that microsoft can
relate to you, and then you have a different serial number for each time you
install vista on a system?
