when i try to get an rss feed for my shows, it says "myshows rss feed is
currently disabled, an annoucement will be made soon. - novaking", however i've
checked every day for quite a while now and have found no announcements or updates.

i love eztv and was really excited to get an rss feed, but i guess it was too
good to be true. ☹️

so, can anyone tell me the announcement?

also i had made an announcement in the 'latest update' thread, but you would
know that because you looked right?

please check the rss tutorial where additional eztv rss feeds
are described and you do not need to refrain from using them while the local one
is down. in addition is always a good idea to have fall back solutions to be
able to enjoy automatic dowloads non-stop

i can just ack that it works very well if you just follow the great tutorial to
the letter! thank you guys for a splendid work!

for a couple of years i've been used to having to check around half a dozen
trackers to be able to find, and then download, the latest episodes of my
favourite tv shows, so it's now an incredible experience to find the shows
already downloaded when i check my inbound folders. i can now even clean up my
bookmarks, removing lot's of second grade trackers.

and, of course, a very warm thank you to all the great uploaders, that supplies
us all with the latest shows, as well as all the generous eztv participants that
are so good at keeping seeding.

the entire eztv concept really rocks & rolls!!!

not to rain on your parade, but not all shows that i get are on the other rss
feeds that were in the great tutorial. so the simple notion of saying "stop
complaining," is not because we didn't look at the guide, but rather the other
rss feeds are not as great as this one is. eztv is the best.

not to rain on your parade,

don't worry, i have plenty of umbrellas. 🙂

edit: ah yes, this is this buggy board. below are the comments on the above
quotes -- you all have to imagine them being inserted between each of the
comments below. please eztv guys, can you please try to fix this bug asap?

what shows? are you sure you set the filters properly? i follow ten shows,
and all of them but one (it's not been aired yet, so i guess that can explain
why it dind't show up yet) came up properly on one of the other two rss feeds.

i second the notion that eztv is indeed the best, but i strongly object to
the "stop complaining" defense. complaining about a free service, that
temporarily doesn't work, imho doesn't contribute anything to making the service
any better.

just noticed that rather odd statement.

i must assume you are only talking about eztv/vtv releases, and not random
stuff from 3rd party sources that you failed to mention.

it's probably worth pointing out that everything - i emphasise everything
- that appeared on the my shows feed from here also appears on the bt-
chat & tvrss feeds ... if you set them up correctly.

tell us what shows/eps you think you are missing, and what feed urls you are
using and we'll tell you what you need to change.

i set up a rss feed at bt-chat but for some reason my feed only updates every
600 minutes. (600/24=25 hours) so it updates every 25 hours. i have searched and
searched but have found nowhere to change it. now the eztv feed doesn't work but
that at least updates every 15 minutes which is tons better.

600 minutes. (600/24=25 hours)

you'd better change batteries in your calculator. 600 minutes is ten hours. 🙂

you can easily change it by unchecking obey ttl and then enter the number of
*seconds* you want in the delay field. but it's not a good idea to enter a too
small a number, if everyone did that, the server might get overloaded.

erm ... some odd mathematics there. unless you are working in 24 minute hours
where you live 😉

since utorrent pretty much ignores a feed's embedded ttl (time to live), if
the feed even bothers setting one, i assume you are talking about azureus' rss
feed scanner plugin.

it's correctly interpreting bt-chat's ttl value of 600 as minutes rather than
seconds i.e. 10 hours instead of 10 minutes.
(the rss 2.0 standard ttl element spec defines the units as minutes)

the problem is twofold:-

with the plugin - it uses minutes for embedded ttls but seconds when you enter
a value manually in the delay: field, and uncheck the ttl box.

with the bt-chat feed - they had excessive rss load issues back in december
which meant they had to halt the feed for a short time, but now it's been back
for a while setting a 10 hour interval seems a bit extreme. it's an odd
situation.

anyway - uncheck `obey ttl`, then enter the delay: value you want (in seconds)
or set it to 0 so the plugin uses it's default from the tools/options/plugins
menu.

i use 1800 secs (30 mins) for most feeds.

[edit]

that's what you get for stopping to make coffee in the middle of typing a
post. baloo2 beat me to it 🙂

it would be interesting to know how you ended up with that number -- since
that's exactly what i use too on all three feeds (even the 15-minutes ones). 😉

i guess it can be called a bug in azureus' rssfeed plugin that they use seconds
rather than minutes. i can see no need for a resolution of seconds there.
minutes, or even a 15 minute granularity, would have been much better imho.

btw, i hope the coffee tasted good! 🙂
