i don't mean to sound like a complete ungrateful dick, but is it possible to
stop people posting just to say thanks on the torrent comments? 😏

i click on the comments to see if there are any problems with the episode which
i am about to download, not to see everybody showing their gratitude.

if i ask on the irc channel, i'd get replies along the lines of "lol download it
and find out", or "just be smart and wait a while before downloading". now,
first of all my connection speed isn't that great. second, where i live, shows
air much later than where they air in the us, so the idea behind me getting them
here is to be able to watch them earlier than tv channels here allow.

again, i don't mean to sound ungrateful for what is done here, because i am very
grateful. please don't get the wrong impression.

we've been through this one already and the feedback was very 50/50 ( for the
messages of thanks and against ) but the end result was tough luck. people want
to say thanks and in the end you'll just have to scan through the messages
keeping your eye out for a useful post.

personally i thought a ' thankyou ' button would have got round the issue but no
one seemed very enthusiastic about it.

so in a nutshell, tough sh*t.

no probs - i don't wholly disagree with you but people want to rightly say
thanks and thats great but can be annoying scrolling through 20 - thanks from
papua new guinea - or whatever. best thing you can do is wait just a few hours
and if a proper/repack etc hasn't been posted then the original file is 99.9%
likely to be fine.

or check sites like vcdquality or orlydb to see if the file has been nuked....

i just had an idea i think would please everybody.

keep the comments how they are now and let people post "thank you" posts, but,
have one 'post' at the top that is editable by anybody but is reserved only for
information about the rip. i.e. sync errors, etc.

this way, people can keep posting their thank you posts and people that need
info about the quality of the rip can simply look at the top of the thread.

edit: here is a screenshot of a mock-up i made showing what i mean:

that helps, but does not have the desired effect. the point of filtering thank
you comments would be so that everybody can post with their reviews, allowing
the rest of us who are late to get it know if there's anything wrong with the
file. i doubt moderators are available 24/7.

there's nothing wrong with people showing their gratitude. and yes,
making a
thread whining about it does make you look like an ungrateful fuck.

to imply that people are not grateful just because they don't say "thanks" is a
pretty ignorant stance to take. knowing if a file needs to be or will be nuked
as soon as possible is good for the community and keeps the greatest number of
resources (users) with the best possible files.

i in no way see this topic painting the op as an "ungrateful fuck." and in
response to the topic at hand i don't think it is that difficult to scroll down
the comments past all the thanks to see if there are any problems. that is what
i do. and even if i'm deep into a dl and it only has a minor issue i'll let it
finish because i'm not archiving or anything.

personally, i like looking through all the "thanks from wherever" and seeing the
diverse group of people who enjoy a show from all over the world! if i need to
know about quality, i usually skip through the one line posts and go to a few
line post were i know some substance might be found. not so hard, that is unless
you are lazy!

also, if i see 100 grateful people saying "thank you" then i know more than
likely that is a show that i want to check out. so really, i have no problem
with people giving the people responsible for bringing us these great shows and
eztv a little gratitude and saying thank you! imo, sometimes saying it in a post
seems a little more meaningful than just pushing a "thank you" button. however,
if there was a thank you button i would use it - and probably still post!

it's not a matter of being lazy or not, it's simply convenience. we all like to
try to make things easier for ourselves, not harder.
