sorry for the crazy title. basically looking for an easy way to format
something like

showname.sxxexx.group-whatever.avi

into a simple, clean filename like: showname sxe.avi

there's a bunch of batch renaming programs, but they don't do very well when the
filenames aren't uniform to begin with, and episode filenames tend not to be.

if you use a program to do batch rename, please post some info about it so i can
look for it!

thanks in advance

move your cursor to the file. right mouse click, chose "rename", rename, done.
is it this you've been asking about?

personally i use file renamer:

http://www.webxpace.net/software/software.html

but mostly i just leave the filenames alone; i find the scene naming scheme to
be informative, and it's usually also smart to keep it because it makes it
easier to do stuff like seed the files on private trackers later on 🙂

yeah that's what i usually do too.. until i archive it.

cuz to me, it's more informative to see the season/ep number as well as the
title of the episode. and i know that i've gotten the best releases (propers,
repacks, etc) before i burn it so it's all good.

i have a 'download server' on our home network that i use to download torrents,
so i leave the names as they are on that machine. when im ready to burn the half
season, normally 11 or 12 episodes i transfer them to my computer, rename them
to the specific episodic number/name and then burn & delete.

(i have up til now been too lazy to put the other burner i have in said download
machine, plus there is the aversion to getting my cute but considerable behind
down on the floor to fool around with burning or anything else on that machine.)
:)
if the burn goes crappy i still have the original files on the download machine.
it helps to keep things organized since i dont have a huge amount of space on
this computer. geez i need to get a bigger hard drive lol for both machines.

unfortunately my dvd player wont show long names so i just have to do something
like '01-02 episodename' though most of the time the name wont show but the
first few letters. now of course i could solve this problem by creating a menu
of my own for the dvd, but that would involve more work than my cute but
considerable lazy behind wants to do. :laughs:

:chuckles: my brain-deadness of late has been caused by the confirmation of
layoff rumors at my job, so can't take you up on it 🙂 as much as i would love to!

as for the rest, ummm i gotta look some of that up :laughs: don't know if i've
ever said but everything i've learned for my job ie/computers etc, is
self-taught. never went to school for that kind of thing, though i do have an
old antiquitated degree in telecommunications, way back when key systems were in
use. i can still punch 25 pair wire in my sleep though 🙂

torrents and the like are new for me, only a few years of messing around with
them but there's enough that i learn something new every day, which is good 🙂

if you like the panasonic 50" viera hd, may i suggest you look at the panasonic
th-50pw7bx range (or its current equivalent) as this is their commercial screen,
it does not have any tuners, speakers of anything like that. it is just a plain
display. but............ it has a d-sub 15p input from your pc and three input
card sockets for your customizing delights.

in these sockets you can put cards to accept any type of input from (dare i say
it) scart through rgb to hdmi and beyond. the screen copes with all these
different inputs and has capabilities to spare. also panasonic just release a
new card when a new input system is developed so it never gets outdated.

ps. if a year down the line you decide a 50" screen is not big enough, the
screen has a multi screen function so you can have a bank of 50" screens
configured to be a 2 x 2 array (4 screens) up to 4 x 4 (16 screens) giving you a
viewing size of 200" x 112"

will this be big enough for sir?

jayeff,

if the samsung lcds are so good, then why do all the major british retailers use
the panasonic th-xxpw7bx range of plasmas to display their in shop advertising?

also when you put the panasonic on standby the power consumption drops from 250w
in mormal use to 1w or less on standby. shame the same cannot be said for
samsung lcds. they only achieve about a 25% reduction in power consumption on
standby.

panasonic are way green

maybe we should rename this thread, something like...
plasma vs lcd the way to go?

or maybe just start a new thread.
