same, for heroes i seed until the next episode comes out, then dowload and seed that one... ah if only more people did that, the world would be a greater place. -- everytime you cancel a seed before a 2.0 upload ratio, god kills a kitten. |

would someone explain to me what seeding is and how i do it? i just got into this, and don't really understand. i'd get my boyfriend to explain, but he'd only make fun of me i just click it to download and leave it. am i doing it right? i mean i'm getting the episodes, but really slowly. and crappy download rates. sometimes they go up to 60kb+ but then sometimes they get stuck at 0 or 1-2 for ages. in total i think it took me like 18hours to download this episode |

thats pretty much it, seeding is continuing to upload long after you download. as for your rates, it all depends on what client you\'re using - utorrent, azureus, etc - because they all have slightly different ways of setting the thing up, but basically, you need to make sure your upload is at most 80% of your total upload rate. that allows you to still send ack\'s to all the peers youre connected to to say \'send the next piece thanks, i have that one.\'. some people go unlimited up/down rates and complain how slow it is.. for a normal download its generally fine, you have but one connection to a server sending you a file, like winamp.com for instance.. but bit torrent uses an all together different method - many people send you small chunks of the same file, so you need to keep enough upload \'space\' to talk to them all. and this all depends on how you have configured your max concurrent connections, and all those funky things... depending on your torrent client, best bet would be to hunt down the official forums for them, and theyre bound to have a coherent faq on what settings make the most changes to your speeds. for instance, i was downloading this at over 350kb/s, which is still bloody slow for my 12meg link... should be 24meg but meh too far from the exchange. but fine enough for me.  jesus, i made a normal post... thats how good this episode of heroes was, it drove me normal... 8-o |
