Opinions on Season 6 of 24

just trying to generate a bit of a discussion here...

first, i'm a huge fan of 24! i have purchased all 5 seasons and have
downloaded all of season 6 so far. the writing for me has always been top
notch and the power of bauer is unsurpassed.

that being said, is it just me or is this season lagging? i have almost found
it boring. i hate to say anything negative about this show because i love it,
but this season just seems to lack something to me. it has focussed a lot of
presidential and political shenanigans, and it almost seems like kiefer
sutherland has become bored with the role.

when there is action, jack bauer seems to have lost the human element and has
somehow become james bond where he is the only one that can save the world and
that terrorists will give up if we sacrifice jack to their evil clutches. it
really lacks a lot of realism to me this year.

i am also hearing rumors that sutherland now feels at 40, that perhaps he is
getting too old for the role. i hope the series will go on for many years as
long as they can continue with the quality they have produced in the past. do
you think 24 can survive without jack bauer? they will certainly be big shoes
to fill.

when i look back at season 1 it was about a man trying to save his daughter
and wife while still doing his job at ctu (not knowing they were linked). it
was suspenseful and exciting...now, it's like we are running out of
apocalyptic events for jack to save the world from. nerve gas, nuclear bombs,
terrorists...have they gone too far to go back to the simpler elements that
made jack bauer a character we could relate to?

too much torture... no originality in the script... that's what i think of
season 6, too bad, i loved the first five.

i have to say i'm disappointed.

there is something missing and i can't really figure out what it is.
and i don't like most of the new characters, they piss me off. and this whole
thing with an evil vice president.. we've seen it before. it's so old and boring
now.

but, i will keep watching and hope for it to get better. and if it doesn't i
hope they never make another season of 24, and if they do i hope it is the beast
season of a tv-show mankind has ever known 😲

lol...i also like house a lot. and i'm happy to see my feelings shared on 24
by so many others...i thought i was just getting old and cynical. but it does
seem very repetitive to me as well...which is what i found so surprising. it
was always cutting edge with keeping the viewer on the edge of their seat over
what will happen next. the first four episodes were pretty good this season,
but then things seemed to dwindle off into nowheresville.

i was really shocked last season when so many major players were killed off. i
thought it would mean huge changes for jack this year. maybe back in the dept
of defence or something like that. but he just came back to ctu and life went
on as usual. one funny thing here...he's been back saving the world for 20
hours and he hasn't made a phone call to his daughter yet to tell her he's
alive and back in the usa? hey...jack lives on the phone.

anyways, i agree with all here. i still love the show and really hope it kicks
ass next season. with only 4 episodes left in season 6, most of the season has
been a waste for me.even if they have the best cliff hanger ever...it seems a
waste watching a whole season for it.

the problem with 24 is trying to have continuity between season. it just gets
more and more ridiculous every time the same character saves the world in one day.

house is good, but this season has me worried. all the stuff about house and
the cop and drugs...i don't know. er was a great medical show that turned into
a terrible soap opera--i wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happens to house.

i never really liked house until this season, i think with this show the writing
has got better while so many other shows are floundering.

24 and the shield are the 2 best shows on television bar none. watching anything
else just isnt as good.

this season of 24 is not over yet so i would not judge it.

based on your recommendations, i will have to check out the shield...sadly to
say, i've yet to watch a single episode.

hey jayeff, your right! vic is what jack used to be. it seems they made jack
more "pc" and less of a bad ass.

----for example in s4 he shot a terrorist in interrogation .

sadly this season of 24 isn't holding me, i have the last 5 seasons on dvd
truth be told its getting tiring, russians setting up arabs so arabs get the
blame, chineese wanting russian secrets etc.

president palmer imho is tragically bad, he wasnt too bad last season helping
jack find out who killed david palmer. the whole jacks brother and father are
awesome big terrorist dudes didnt wash, surely jack would know this, he's
jack. the whole point of the show was he's jack he's gonna kill you or beat
you to death after he makes you think you might kill him.

24 was about jack and his relationships with the people around him s1 was the
family and nina, s2 was the daughter and chole, s3 was jack and ctu against
the world, s4 was jack, tony, palmer the whole family of terrorists thing. s5
jack against the president with help from the few left that trusted him.

s6 has been disjointed jack has never "fit" into a "clique" everyone he cared
about is dead basically or isnt able to help him cuz they dont wanna be
spanked too hard.

theres a lack of relationship and togetherness. the only real interesting
parts has been tom blackmailing the vice president, and milo trying to get the
arab chick.

on house i would say this season has been better the first 2 seasons were very
predictable.

'house walks in with limp pissed off' "differential diagnosis people", - this
weeks patients and symtoms.

cameron "sarcoidosis"
forman "tumor"
chase "hmm dunno"

'smug house ok test for that stuff then test for this cause i already think i
know what it is but it wont be it but it fits"

ok it wasn't sarcoidosis, the tumor or what house thought....hmm its cancer!
lets go and see wilson.

'sexually repressed wilson' "zomg its cancer they have 3 days"
'sexually repressed wilson' "well i did some tests and its not cancer hayho
but the patient is still dying"

'house muses and swigs vicodin" well it's not what i thought, and you were all
wrong so it must be "blahblahitious" start the patient on iv - ig

29 minutes in to the episode patient seems perky the 3 idiots gather and wait
for a sezure (typically) "omg he's sezing!! push adavan!"

well he isnt dead yet but he very almost is the fact he isnt tells us it's.....
'of house goes to hunt down cuddy and make some remark about her breasts'

patient lives, they say thanks and tries to connect with house or
patient dies, cameron feels bad and comes on to house again.

season 3 has had more story and less of the predictive format of season 1-2
which althoug are amazing got highly predictable.

yeah.. makes me wonder why 24 is still on. it was shit from season 1 in my
honest opinion.

the problem with 24 this year was there was no way it was going to be as good as
last year's. s5 started out hot and how were they going to top it?

problem #2 is, a new batch of writers that are not familiar with the previous
seasons...this season is really a rehash of 2. shame really.

a poster a page or two back made a good point, why try to tie each season
together...we already know they are saving the world...you think they could lose
once or twice?

there needs to be a major reboot...personally i would love to see domestic
terrorism, maybe jack on the run, or trying to stop a school
shooting...something different. and maybe even a change of scenery (nyc anyone?).

i agree, change of scenery is long overdue. i thought finally they might at
least do some episodes out of the la area with the whole chinese thing, but no,
it starts with jack back. ugh. problem is, you can't fly from china to la and
still have enough time in the day i guess.

but it still draws viewers.. so they're surviving on the die hard fans' loyalty.
