for those of you interested in keeping the dresden files on the air, sign the
petition and send lots of feedback email to the scifi channel.

someone made this on the jim-butcher.com forum. it's for a season two of dresden
files. h t t p://www.dresdenfiles.org/petition/

"we've learned that the scifi channel hasn't decided yet whether or not to renew
the dresden files for a second season. rumor has it that this decision will be
made sometime in may or june -- so there's still time for us to let them know
we'd like to see more of this show!"

wow took you guys a while. i've been watching for a renewal notice for a long
time - could have told you it hadn't been renewed.

looks like most networks are slow at the moment though - most shows have yet to
get a renewal order. to list a few completing their current season soon - "ghost
whisperer," "criminal minds," "the unit" - all awaiting their third season
renewal. the all-stars edition of "the amazing race" concludes tomorrow, and we
have yet to get a renewal for season twelve. "smallville" and "supernatural"
conclude in 2 weeks, but i personally guarantee both those will get their
renewal orders. "scrubs" is also still waiting.

the two shows i'm paying attention to that have been finished for a while and
are still waiting are "the dresden files" and "raines." dresden completed its
first season mid-april, raines concluded last week.

don't panic - everyones just being a bit slow this year.

ian, raines might get renewed?

i thought that they pulled episodes from it's first season because they were
giving up on it. i remember it moved timeslots mid-season, which i thought would
be a death warrant. did the show end up doing well on ratings?

no, they didnt pull any of the episodes rather they showed the pilot then waited
several months before starting the epi's. from what i've read its done well
enough that renewing is a good possibility but... always remember what granny
says, "dont be countin' dem chickies before they hatch..."

i'm not sure if things were different here in canada or not, but here the
first 2 episodes of raines were aired on thursday night at 10:00 pm (if memory
serves). the following week, the 3rd episode was moved to friday night at 9 pm
and that's the time slot the remaining episodes played in.

what i did hear was that the season was originally 13 episodes but only 7 were
taken for airing. i know when episode 7 aired here they were referring to it
as the "finale". but all 7 episodes were shown here in 7 consecutive weeks.

personally, i enjoyed the show and i am hoping the rumors are true that it
will be coming back, even if it is several months away. 😉

problem is, you cant put those books to television in a serious manner, its too
involved to be pigeonholed into a one hour episode (well 42 minutes). with that
said, it is a very enjoyable show despite not being totally exact in its
similitude to the books.

it has the essence of the books, folks need to stop being so freaking anal about
exactness. it has merits all on its own, if you watch it only to measure how
badly they deviate from the books then you really arent watching. seems to me if
the author isn't concerned then why should anyone be so anal about it? i mean
they are his books and he's fine with it.

now i've read both dresden and hp, hp books and movies are much more similar but
again, that pigeonholing thing issue is still relevant. as with dresden hp does
communication the essence of the book, though hp books to movies have better
success at it (more time).

so basically get a grip. read the books if you want exactitude, watch the show
for the pleasure of it. or not. comparing the media of print vs. movie/tv is
like comparing a hooker to a politician; with one you actually get screwed, the
other, it only feels like it.

whilst the dresden tv show is good, they could have made it so much better.
if it gets renewed, (which i would like) it will hopefully just keep building
in quality.
i first found the books about 4 years ago and was seriousely entertained.
i agree that the books are far superior but this show is the sort of show
that, if given the chance it deserves, can be great.

if you want a tv show that stays very true to its books try dexter. its nearly
identical.

so come on people. sign the petition. every little helps.
