hr releases uses ac3 sound, so you'll need drivers for
that...or you can
transcode the sound some way, i guess.

thanks for the quick reply. i do have the ac3 filter installed. but does not
work. ah, i forgot to say, i am burning those dvds as data disc as burning
them as dvd would take 40 min for each ep...i am using nero

any help ?

if he'd convert it to a video-dvd he'd loose the benefit of the higher
resolution since the video would be lowered to pal standarts.

you could just reencode the audio stream to something your dvd player supports
or hook up your computer to the tv and play it from there.

thanks for this but if i use convertxtodvd, it will take 40 min to encode one
ep...a painful process?

also, how do we know which audio stream can my dvd player decode? where do i
look for that?

thanks for all your help!

ac3 on dvd players is called, you ready, you shore your ready
"dolby digital" lol, if it doesn't then out puting via component or hdmi will be
required from your pc.
s-video or composite video lead will result in a picture at full 720x400p res
but thats still better than 624x352i from the 350mb version.
as for looking info up, your dvd makers web site, would be a good place to start.

thanks but i knew that..does not explain when i just transfer one of those
700mb file directly as data on a dvd and plays it, dvd player can't (and it's
a dvd player that plays everything from samsung connected via hdmi to the
plasma) output the sound (says no codec on the error message).

maybe the only solution is to convert it through the software mentioned
above...

most divx capable dvd players can't handle the increase in bitrate from hr.hdtv
files. re-encoding is pretty much your only choice here.

its the resolution.
99% of normal standalones can't play files with resolution above 720x576 (pal)
or 720x480 (ntsc) no matter what format (xvid, divx, mpeg, mpeg2 etc)

ctu only release hr.hdtv and 720p (which are well over the max. resolution).

this is why you can't play them

so either settle for the standard hdtv rips or buy something like this

it's only a tv show so why the upgrade from 300mb to 700mb?

at 300mb you can get 12 episodes per dvd.

my phillips divx/xvid/dvd player will give you 5.1 surround sound from a 300mb
file if the file contains the ac3 with the 5.1 sound embedded.

when i convert a dvd i always convert ac3 5.1 if it's available.

convertxtodvd defeats the purpose of having a dvd player that will play
computer video files. why would anybody watch a tv episode or movie on a
computer? divx/xvid players cost less than $60. i have 2 ... gave mother-in-
law and daughter one as gifts.

why download the 700mb version? you have an option to grab the 300mb version.

if you want perfect ... buy the dvd when it comes out or buy the downloaded
version from places like amazon dot com. take it from me .... i had the divx
files of lost season 1 and bought the dvd's ... well the divx were in 5.1
surround and i saw no reason to continue to buy the dvd's.

thanks again for the replies everyone!

resolution is not a problem as my player can output up to 1080i..it's just the
5.1 sound. picture plays no problem but no sound..that's all.

when the file contains the ac3 with the 5.1 sound embedded, how do i transfer
it on the dvd so that my divx/xvid can play it?

how can you have a dvd-player wich plays hi-def files (>576p) but cant handle a
simple ac3 audio track? this sounds kinda weird tbh.

well anyway you can just use nandub to split the ac3 sound from the video
(demux) then encode it in mp3 (downmix to 2.0 probably) with
azid/besweet/whatever and then use nandub again to mux it.
or just use autogk to let it do the converting and demuxing and then abort after
it handled the audio and just mux it yourself.

make sure your dvd player is decoding the ac3 internally and not just passing it
to the screen which i doubt has ac3 decoding 🙂
