the producers said that lost is not scifi and everything can be explained
scientifically. from the latest happenings on the island i cant not say that its
going towards sci-fi. imo lost should keep real, there are much more sci-fi
shows, lost should stay real. wot do you think?

imo it's not scifi. if it needed to be labeled i think mystery would fit best.
but to be honest - who cares bout labels? 😉

i'd call it a fantasy.

yeah if they arent gunna call it science fiction (since i don't believe stuff
from ep 20 {and others} can be explained scientifically)
it has to be classed as fantasy, but 13th floor, matrix, dallas season 9 and
other virtual worlds where classed as sci-fi so i guess we will have to wait
another 52 eps to find out

dallas season 9

lol, is that when pam came back from the dead and it was all a dream?

yeah, bobby came out of the shower(dead for a year), and pam had dreamt the
whole of season 9, it was either that or the old long lost identical
cousin/twin/bastardson2anotherwoman bringbacktoliferer when they need to bring
back an actor to redeem the ratings

it's kind of impossible to label a show with so many unanswered questions. the
writers and producers are the only ones that know the story line and they
claim to have an end in site that will explain everything. lets hope they
havn't built up a sensational climax of clear understanding only to dissapoint
a few million viewers.

oddly enough, when reading some of the replies here, the first thing i thought
of too was the dallas fiasco. the whole dream sequence thing was a total
insult to viewers. for that reason alone, in my opinion, it will remain to be
seen if lost is sci-fi, mystery or a crappy comedy of errors. don't get me
wrong...i love the show too, but i'm waiting for answers, just like everyone
else. what a tremendous insult it will be if after 5 seasons, those answers
don't make sense.

the way so many things reek of a "dream sequence", scares the hell out of me.
it's the only reason i can see that the producers could say it's not sci-fi
tho.

speaking genres, i'd label "lost" as a combination of "mystery" with a whole lot
of "drama" elements. there are some scifi elements (think of dharma's sonic
barrier fence and the magnetic pulse that tore up the plane in mid-air) but
surely not enough to label the show as "scifi" ... "lost" definitely isn't "star
trek"

that said ... if the producers don't get their act together throughout the
remaining 48 episodes, one could add "comedy" to the genre list ... :d

i think you have just got to put some faith into the writers of lost and see
what happens. they haven't totally disappointment over the last 3 year - any bad
episodes that we have been seen are usually far and few between.

the answers do seems to be finally coming and scientifically - well - it's more
pseudo science really. quite alot could be explained through physics and
theoretical science - and i'm happy to sit back and wait to know.

i think too many people have just given up on the show completely because they
don't seem to have the patience to just enjoy the tv programme.

screwy

i agree with part of what you say here...about having faith and sitting back
and waiting (we really have no choice anyways), but i think people become
skeptical after 3 seasons of seemingly getting more questions than answers.
how cheated will everyone feel if the same thing were to happen to lost as we
discussed about the dallas "dream sequence". lost would go down in history (as
did that season of dallas) for the biggest prank on the viewing audience. it
would surely not be forgotten soon.

one other point that hasn't been mentioned here is the networks new trend of
showing 4-7 episodes, taking a 6 week break, showing a few more, then taking
another break...etc. what happened to the good ol' days when we'd get a full
season without interruption? sure, we'd then get a season of reruns, but at
least we could watch a show without interruption.

perhaps then we wouldn't have so many "disposable" shows that air for 3-4
episodes before being cancelled. the only show i've seen thus far that
guaranteed my tuning in again after a 6 week break was heroes. i loved the
first season of lost. i loved the character study. and yes, we were left with
a lot of unanswered questions...but it was great entertainment. season 2
introduced a lot of new characters, almost abandoned the original cast, and
provided more unanswered questions. season 2 almost lost me on one of the
hiatus breaks, but i showed patience and stuck with it.

season 3 has come back to the original characters again and tried to mingle
them in together with the new characters. i'm not sure that i've seen any
questions answered. the list just gets longer. now we are hearing that there
will be 2 more seasons and that they will be stretched out over 3 years. it
just makes me nervous, looking back over the past 3 seasons, that we will get
2 more seasons of more questions, more character studies, and everything that
has happened will be all rolled up in one tight little package and "explained"
in the last episode.

perhaps, it's just a feeling of trepidation, but nobody wants to feel cheated.
i think everyone that has stuck with lost faithfully thru 3 seasons of
constant hiatus breaks and unanswered questions should consider themselves
true fans of the show. i truly feel that this show has tested their fan base.

i'm all for showing patience and giving shows a chance, but should we really
have to wait 3 seasons plus, just to understand what's going on? are we really
enjoying the show now, or just sticking with it to get answers because we have
so much time already invested in it? hey, i'm still watching it...and i still
plan to. but instead of being glued to the set, i find this season i am
usually doing something else and merely glancing at the tv occasionally.

as always, it's only my opinion, but i just feel that in order to keep your
fans faithful, you really gotta give them something back.

i think the actors are taking a lot of heat for this. any time you see one of
the stars on a talk show they seem very frustrated by questions about what's
going on with the show, and understandably so. they obviously are not allowed
to share what little they do know, and they must get asked a lot about it.

last night on leno, dominic monaghan (charlie) mentioned that the writers had
a clear beginning, middle and end to the series and the producers told them to
keep the beginning and end and to just stretch out the middle in order to make
as much money as possible. he also said this was of great concern to the
actors because it could limit their artistic ability. he also said that they
know the fans want answers (understatement) and that they should start coming
soon, to which leno replied "i'll be sure to tune in this week then!" (yeah,
get right on that, jay! hehehe).

as i said, i too will watch to the end because i have 3 years invested
already, but why stretch 2 seasons out over 3 years? money makes the world go
round! (cue joel grey!)
