hey was just wondering if anyone could lead me to a good xvid/divx dvd player at
best buy (bestbuy.com). if it supports usb flash drives that would be a +

oh and just incase anyone is wondering, the reason i say bestbuy is because i
got a friend who works there and is gonna let me use his discount to buy a dvd
player (there discount is like 5% above costs which ends up being like 40-90%
off depending on the product).

thanks
(dont flame me im a nub)

well, the options i'll give you are a little more expensive, but are also
philips machines. here they are (do a search at the best buy site for the
model number for the details):

1. philips dvd player with hd upconversion
model: dvp5982/37

i own the predecessor unit to the above and i love it.

2. philips progressive-scan multiformat dvd-r/-rw/+r/+r dl/+rw recorder
model: dvdr3400

phillips is a very good divx/dvd player.

i have 2 and i bought a friend one.

all purchased at bestbuy and were in the $50 range.

i also bought the toshiba brand for my daughter and mother-in-law. i didn't
like the toshiba because not all dvd's played in the toshiba. i had to burn
the dvd's at 4x for them to playback on the toshiba. i will trade my mother-
in-law and duaghter my phillips for their toshiba's because i can afford to
play around with the dvd's where they don't have any computer skills. so when
i burn a dvd with several divx movies on the dvd ... i want them to be able to
view the movies. if the dvd doesn't work for me ... i can burn another til i
get it to work.

now some dvix movies won't play on a stand-alone but there are enough video
conversion programs available where by you can convert them to a divx or xvid
format suitable for the player.

the key is "can you play it on the computer?".
