comon...i received a warning from isp
this morning after downloading an episode
of law and order svu from this site. after
calming down, i realize even though i personally
pay for my cable which airs l&o svu because
torrent force you to upload it is considered
illegal. this will be my last time i use this
site unfortunately ☹️

its hardly this sites fault you got caught by your isp.

frankly, torrents are illegal and if you dont take measures to protect
yourself from detection you're gonna get caught eventually.

you were just one of the unlucky few.

download peerguardian 2.
if you use azureus, get the safe peer plugin.

you should then be protected from detection.

good luck

actually torrent themselves are legal, what is illegal in
some countries is
certain content.

really. i didn't know that. what sort of content? i assume you mean tv, film
and music in general but is the law more targeted to certain areas of those
subjects. for example i mean obviousely american tv is off limits but is it
legal to download, say, british or australian tv.
just curious.

torrents are just directions that tell you where to get it from (i.e. the
tracker) how is a bit of text illegal?

it is illegal for us people to download uk/aus stuff, but not for canadians. i
personaly dont know of anyone that has been warned for downloading uk tv
stuff, only microsoft stuff.

the legal content aydin may be talking about is things like linux distros

good god!

ok, torrent files are not illegal to download. i get that. what i meant was
that it is illegal to download tv shows that have been placed on the internet
in whatever form when not authorised by whatever network made it.

is that precise enough to cover what i meant?

peer guardian 2 does not guarantee protection
by any means. look around on the net
and you will find thousands of posts where
people still get in trouble even by using
peer guardian 2. just be careful. universal
pictures doesnt play games.

note: if you got the warning outside the usa then this message is useless

look up "usc title 17, section 107: limitiations of exclusive rights: fair use"
it basically means that we american's can legally download tv shows (which most
air for free to begin with) as long as its for non profit and non big public
showing kinda stuff. also bring up that its for research in a film or directing
career

there was a good talk on it at torrentspy but the whole torrent the comments
where on got deleted (no suprise) but i saved it

one quote from a guy that seemed to know what he was talking about is "however,
if you're an american, you have usc title 17, section 107: limitations on
exclusive rights: fair use (if you don't know what this is, google it).... this
will protect you and they can't and won't do s**t. don't be afraid."

i dont know if you can use this to get you out of downloading hbo/showtime stuff
which costs money to view it any way on tv.

most likely that was a worthless automated message to scare you and they cant do
squat. just like the mpaa saying some kid got fined several hundred thousands
dollars for downloading a movie (its just bogus junk to scare us (common thing
done in the usa).

but use protection like peerguardian2 and utorrent ip filter, and enable
encryption in your torrent client (options >> preferences. bittorent, turn
protocol encryption outgoing to enabled. p ress ok.)

you could drag that further and ask how is it illegal to be downloading a series
of '1's and '0's. if one of those values were different, it wouldn't be the tv
show you were hoping to get. that's how i see it, and that's what makes it
pathetic if you ask me ... you're being threatend with legal action over owning
a particular series of '1's and '0's on a hard-disk drive.

thats almost exactly what i'd say to to other people like family with
movies years ago

this does not sound correct. law and order
is shown on cable television. many people do not pay
for cable television but have access to the internet
uploading to any and everyone results in
redistributing copyrighted material that i
dont have rights to. so that is bs.

also about the 1's and 0 bs someone
has watched hackers a few too many times.
downloading anything in the likeness of the show
is the same thing. plus thats just silly.

well even then you a copying a movie or tv show not stealing it
when you steal it someone loses out like the store. but mean while you copy it
and its neutral
and that "well they lost a potential customer" saying is dumb cause 95% of the
time even with out p2p the avg teen still wouldn't of bought that movie/cd from
a store.

i know if i didn't know about p2p, then that doesn't mean i would be going out
and buying season dvd packs. same with cd's (i would be copying them from friends 🙂
some people like me dont want to pay $8 to see a movie once in a theater so they
dont bother. and how does it make a difference if they download or not.
sure the movie screen is big but you are sitting probably 100+ feet away from
it. its not just screen size of the screen that matter, its how much of your eye
site it takes up. ex a 13 in tv can be 2 feet in front of you while a 32" would
have to
be further back and a 65" ws hdtv would have to be 10+ away to look good so
while one may be bigger, from the distances you watch it at, its not taking up
much more of your eye site. same with my old 16" visible crt and 22" ws lcd.
the crt was placed closer to me (but yeah the lcd is higher res.)
