i've followed every recommendation in the faq, yet i'm seeing abysmal speeds
(~65kbps) with my 512/1mb connection (upstream set to 47 kbps max in utorrent).
others are
flying by me with double, triple and greater speeds. the torrent is well seeded
(68 in swarm currently) and i've noticed that on other torrent sites that are
similarly well seeded but where traffic is much less, i can get speeds in excess
of 900kbps. any other pointers or reasons as to why my throughput is so horrid?
my ratio is a healthy 0.766 and i don't even have a third of the file yet!

~65kb/s seems quite reasonable. if you were complaining because it was only
around 5 or 10, then i might be sympathetic, but moaning about 65 is just being
impatient.

you max upload should be 15kbs not higher, and if u speed is 512/1mb then u
have o divide that by 8 to get your real download speed, coz at 4mb speed my
max download would be 500kbs.

and if you follow things by the faqs thats never gonna help you coz they put
whats best for all, not us leachers who only want to take take take:)

to get speeds in excess of 900kbps, you would need a downstream line speed of 8mb.
it appears (going by your post) that you're getting your numbers confused (kbps,
mb, mb etc). you're downstream speed should be the fastest part of your
connection too - 512/1024 just defies modern logic.

apologies, that should read 7mb down/512kbps up with regards to the connection.
my max speeds have actually been around 800+ kbps on other less-traveled
torrent sites. the rest of the post should be accurate, lol.

i don't think this is being unreasonable when we're talking files larger than a
gig, especially when i see others flying by at 300+ kbps.

denver100, by faq i meant the one here with regards to common causes for slow
speeds. 😉

thanks for all your input.

10/1 here, getting along the lines of 200-300 kb/s from this tracker

utorrent setting: 5 upload slots with global upload capped at 80kb/s (my max is
115kb/s) so theres room for acknowledgments from peers/web browsing (it's
important to have spare)
that works best for me.

try http://www.portforward.com for routing/port problems

other then that, if you want more speeds...private trackers are the way. if you
can maintain the ratio 😛

if you are worried about speed, then you should spend some money on usenet
access (between $7 and $20 per month). you get the releases quicker than eztv
and you will download at the maximum speed your connection allows because you
download from a dedicated server.

what a lot of people don't realize when they complain about speeds is that the
speed of your own connection can be quite irrelevant to your download speeds at
times. your download speeds are dependent upon the upload speeds of of others in
the swarm. you can be on a fiber backbone and still get 30kbps down speed on
some torrents (although probably not from here very often).
