hi all. i search a lot over internet but i couldn't find a proper guide to
convert .mkv files in avi. the reason i'd like to do that is because i would
create a dvd with nero vision or similars, in order to watch my beloved lost
episodes on tv. the problem is that nero vision doesn't recognize .mkv files
so i need to convert them in avi. questions are
1) is there a program to create dvd that recognize .mkv, so i can use that
instead of nero vision ?
2) if i must use nero, how can i convert a mkv in avi in the simplest possible
way?
3)is it possible to keep the 720p format on a normal dvd-5 ?

thanks to all the good people that will have the patience to answer my
questions and big congratulation to eztv for its birthday.this site is
fantastic.

ps: i apologize for my bad english.

cheers from sunny italy.

how do you connect your pc and tv. i mean, which kind of connections do you
need to preserve the 720p?

using directshowsource() in avisynth, you can easily serve the .mkv to
virtualdub or whatever and convert it to whatever you want.

thanks to all, i've know understood that i can't see hd stuff using a normal
dvd. i think the easiest solution is to use the 700mb avi file of lost
episodes that has a better quality and is transcodable in dvd. i will use
adobe encore cs2 for that, even if it's a bit complicated.
i tried also to connect my pc to my 48" full hd (1080p) television, but the
results wasn't so good, the images were very pixelating even using the 720p
files, dunno why.
anyway, thanks again for the support and cheers from the (too) sunny italy.

bye

thanks aydin for your kind advices. i got a nvidia gforce 7600 as a gpu so it
should be fine for the tv. i'll check if and where is the hdmi plug and i'll
try to play with the different setups as you suggest.
it's a shame, anyway, that i got a so advance tv and i can't exploit it to the
max. having a full hd by now is like having a ferrari without gasoline in
it.very frustrating...
