so, if i dl the 720p version of a show instead of the regular 350mb file

will it actually look better on my laptop then the regular file?
and do i need specific codecs or cpu and memory?

yes it will definitely look better.

your laptop probably runs a resolution of greater than 1027x768 for example,
and the 350mb files are only 624x352. if you watch the 720p (1280x720) releases
you'll actually be taking advantage of the resolution the laptop screen offers.

you do need a powerful machine though. if you have trouble decoding the 720p's,
try the hr.

my laptop has a 1280x800 resolution and thats more then enough for 720p with out
resizing.

in theory 1680x1050 is enough to watch 1080i/p content with out quality loss due
to how video compression works even though 1680 width would be 944p
