well, it must be the us one cause thats the only country that does bb reminds me of this: last month a world wide survey was conducted by the united nations. the only question asked was: 'would you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world?' the survey was a huge failure. in africa they didnt know what 'food' meant. in eastern europe they didnt know what 'honest' meant. in western europe they didnt know what'shortage' meant. in china they didnt know what 'opinion' meant. in the middle east they didnt know what 'sollution' meant. in south america they didnt know what 'please' meant. in the united states they didnt know what 'the rest of the world' meant. |

this is text, sarcasm is a little harder to tell especially on a site with people still occasionally asking why the hr file is twice as big. |

it's really not so hard to tell when you read the entire message and not just part of it. when it's followed by a story that essentially declares that the us fails to recognize the rest of the world it's not that hard to deduce they were being sarcastic with their initial statement. more than likely they just wanted a spot to put the clever little "reminds me of this" story that they just had forwarded to them, despite it being a 5 year old joke. i rarely wade into these forums, and really lately it's getting even more rare that i want to read them. |

i was gonna say something to that effect but couldnt be bothered.. the storywasnt forwarded to me but no doubt, it has been on the net for a while.. i copied it from a newspaper belive it or not (about 3-4 years ago) i thought it appropriate to paste it considering you understood it.. i wasnt looking for the chance to post it, it really did remind me when i saw the country of origin was missing on this file |

just watched the 20 minutes of the first show and this is is the first time i've watched bb usa. my first impression is that it's rubbish!. the format is so different from the uk show it hard to believe they are both bb!. no crowds when they enter. silly fake video of them "finding" the keys to the house and the cheapest looking bb house i have ever seen, it looks like a tv set rather than a house turned into a tv set (yes i know the british bb house is also at a studio, but at least it does not look as fake as the us version). seems to me that the whole series has been done on the cheap, very disappointing. i didn't think it was possible to be a bb snob, but i guess i'm one. |

i agree. i tried to watch bb usa a couple years ago and couldn\'t take it. the little clips that are edited into scenes with the housemates talking about what they were feeling while that scene was going on is really annoying and wrecks the whole concept of bb. i just happened to start watching bb uk this year and it is so much better than the us version. i am so hooked. so i thought i would try watching the bb usa to see if maybe i would like it now that i am a bb uk fan. nope. it is worse because i know how good it could be. |

there are some definite differences in the us and uk versions of bb, while the first season of us bb was more traditional to the bb format developed in nz though still with it's own distinctly american influence it has changed alot since then. the uk version is a little less "family" friendly, where as the us version airs on prime time television so ends up a bit more restricted. that's where the live feeds and after dark comes in. to me the biggest difference now is that the us version has dropped most of the pretensions that this is a "social experiment" and simply gone all out with the "it's a game" mentality. it tends to spark more drama, lies, and political warfare between the contestants. all the voting is done by the contestants, the nominations by the hoh head of household, the us introduced the power of veto rule, etc. it turns it into more of a game, with more drama which is what the american public prefers and following along with other reality game shows like survivor. while i like the idea of viewer votes in some instances, for bb i wouldn't care for it. viewer votes come down to popularity contests so the players have less ability to really act like themselves without potentially isolating an entire viewing segment. instead of popularity its about how well you can play the game, create alliances, and lie through your teeth. it all equates into good tv as far i'm concerned. the show isn't perfect but its entertaining and that's how it should be watched...for entertainment purposes only. |
