Can't find what you're looking for? Might try streaming TV sites...

in a eureka episode forum i posted the following, and i decided to make it into
a thread of it\'s own because i think it\'s something every eztv user would be
interested in if they haven\'t run across it yet...streaming tv sites.

i don\'t know if this post is against forum rules...if it is, please delete
immediately--i for sure don\'t want to get banned.

anyway, users might want to check out these semi-new sites that are popping up
that index streaming video of full movies and tv seasons...for example:

(remember to replace the xx\'s with tt\'s when you copy and paste the url in
browser)

they are actually pretty cool if you don\'t have time or for some other reason
don\'t want to download shows. i\'m not saying they are better than this site
(they aren\'t), but if you don\'t mind lower quality, streaming video, they come
in quite handy. i watched the whole eureka season 1 using these sites instead of
spending a night downloading them first. in fact, some of the sites will point
to copies of shows that are hosted on sites like veoh or stage6, where the
compression and quality is close to your typical .avi encode.

good stuff. once again, i\'m not cheerleading for any particular site and i\'m
definitely not telling people to use these instead of eztv...i love this site
and i think it\'s the highest caliber tv site of it\'s kind. just letting people
know of an alternative in case they can\'t find older shows on here, or on other
torrent sites, for that matter.

i live by alluc.org when i'm working the late shift and have nothing else to do
with my company bandwidth, its great for all the random uk comedies like peep
show, black books etc that i always miss first time around.

it's only worth watching tv in mass when it's in divx, which is why i love
stage6.divx.com -- i'm greatful that the majority of the shows i seek out on
tv-links are hosted on stage6, but sometimes they miss some shows. so it might
be worth running a search there if you still can't find what you're looking for.

might be worth adding that there are sites that stream tons of channels from the
worlds tv stations and i think it's excellent that such places exist but the
quality level makes it a curiosity only, plus who wants to go back to watching
tv on someone else's schedule?

well, as i said before, that's the most obvious fault of these sites...actually
two faults:

1) compression quality

2) hosted link reliability

as for quality, yes, i agree that these sites only come in handy when you can't
find what you're looking for anywhere else, or when you just feel like casually
checking out some shows to pass the time (albeit on-demand, with no downtime for
actually downloading the content).

for example, i never watched the witchblade tv series when it was released, and
recently i've been just casually watching an episode here or there when i have
time. it's handy on the off-days when none of my regular shows are released, and
i just wanna watch something immediately. it *is* kinda satisfying to be able to
just click a link and have the tv show pop up right away and start streaming
with no download wait.

as far as hosted link reliability, that's a whole other issue. basically it's
just up to the admins of these sites on how actively they want to keep links
updated. but hey, with no registrations and no fees, it's still a cool concept.

i think it's also interesting to point out joost, which is the new thing from
the creators of kazaa and skype. i received an invite for it recently (it's
still in beta). although it sucks ass, the concept seems promising if it could
someday be applied to the open-source p2p community. the way i understand it,
this new protocol is supposed to be like a bittorrent version of streaming
video. the video file itself isn't hosted on any one central server...instead
it's content is spread over a swarm of users, and those users can view the video
by tapping into the downstream. looks like something that could be promising,
but for now, the platform sucks--it's in cooperation with just a few cable
companies and features dull, limited content like reruns of max headroom from
the '80s... 😉

thank you so much! i couldn't get the first episode of earth 2 to work on
tv-links (already knew about that site) but it works on alluc.org! now i can
finally relive this series and see any episodes i missed. just too bad it got
canned early.

my question is while yes theses sites off a lot of different shows can you
download to your computer from any of them?

you can download to your computer via alluc.org (and veoh). you just have to dl
the veoh player but it still downloads in .avi format and you can burn the file
to dvd or do whatever from there.

no one cares.
