Main entertainment or just extra?

there seems to be alot of people who download from this site in many places
where its not available, or takes long to arrive.

but how much do people actually watch these us shows compared to their own local
content?, do people actually prefer the us tv more internationally?.

i'm from spain and i use eztv because the us shows take months to get here,
plus, they are dubbed in spanish, which means that you lose a lot of the
original acting. i normally just watch us tv because its way better than
spanish tv, where we have lots of local shows but none of them is comparable
in quality as the american products that air nowadays.

i am in the us and use this simply so i can watch the shows i want, when i
want in my office, where i have 2 monitors but no tv. i still use my tivo to
get other shows.

well, i wonder about international users though, if wether or not they prefer
these us shows to their own local content,regardless of language.

in general, the us shows get bigger budgets, so the shows tend to be a little
better. one of the reason for the big budget, is the 300 million who live
there (more money being spent, more advertisment money etc etc), the 300m
means they sould be able to support more shows than say the uk with around 60
million, having more actors (meaning more good actors) to pick from.

i would say, although only a summary, they are some of the key factors in
people watching us tv. money + people.

yeah.. i'm in new zealand. little good local content, plus the delay in airing
the us shows is pretty big. some shows don't even air here at all.

i'm from germany and download us tv-shows because:

1. i get the episode 6-12 month before they air here in germany
2. hdtv 🙂 we don't even have one real hdtv-channel. just two which air about 3
movies a month in 1080i, everything else is upscaled...
3. german dubbing mostly sucks.
4. german tv series are mostly awful and absolutely ridiculous...

aussie tv is getting better in regards to playing stuff close to air date in
us. but still, i've gotten into the habit of dl my shows, and watching them at
my leisure. i tend to get at least a dvd's worth (usually 1/2 a season) then
watch. the variety is far greater, and many of the shows that i dl will never
see the light of day here.

but overlord is definately right. the quality and quantity of shows that the
us create is definately greater. i do watch aussie shows (all saints, and i
hate to admit it, but home and away), but they are few and far between. the
same number of shows simply aren't produced, so you don't get as large a range.

that's a no brainer.

actually it makes sense. us actually cares about quality programming so it's
conceivable for us to have a higher standard.

while i do agree that people who bitch and moan publicly is just sad because
let's face it.. at the end it is just television.. which shouldn't dictate our
lives. but at the same time, that's the whole point of entertainment.. sift
out the bad and keep the shows that holds our attention. that's what paves the
way for smarter, better programming.

reality shows are an enigma.. new ones keep popping up at an exponential rate
and it may be me.. but reality shows don't need to be around especially at the
expense of good quality shows that gets axed (studio 60, firefly, etc). if it
was solely up to me.. nix about 75% of the reality shows and put up those other
shows.. that even if it doesn't get a lotta viewership.. keep it up anyway. i
know this is probably not feasible since it's the networks that's eating the
money loss but one can hope..

all aussie tv is just reality bs or crappy aussie shit or really old

i think that's crap. it's not a case that they care about the programming, but
more so they care about the money.
again i refer to overlords comment that due to the large population, they have
more funding etc to spit out more programs. then the sales to the rest of the
world allows them to create more. the tv/movie production companies are well
established in the us. they have more money to throw at producing programs.

i don't agree that all aussie stuff is crap. yeah, the reality stuff is, but
that is universal imo. the tv/movie industry here doesn't get the same
financial backing as os, so they are limited. of course some of the stuff is
crap, but that's par for the course. but i definately wouldn't go as far as to
say it's all rubbish.
