Conveting HD 720p files 2 PS3 /

i've been looking around here and could not find anything related to the ps3.

i'm looking for the best program to convert the 720p files to a format the ps3
understands in hd720p, since both my pc's can't play the mkv files without
getting the audio out of snyc. and i will be getting a ps3 and a hdtv soon. so i
thought i would try to play heroes in 720p at last.

or is the a way to stream it to the ps3 ?

or should i try "yellow dog linux" for ps3?
i don't know much about this or if it plays mkv or if vlc will work with it.

so any help would be cool 🙂

there is a ps3 version too, but i have been using 360 version for a month or
so and works a treat

a friend with a mac uses quicktime pro to convert

streaming to ps3 is so much better than xbox360
my ps3 is set up wireless, xbox wired
the xbox needs to buffer the file before viewing
ps3 plays straight away

in videora i set the mkv's to convert to h.264 720p 3072kbps stereo/160kbps,
converted files are about 1.5gb for a 42min ep
takes about 5hrs to convert the mkv's to
mpg4's which the xbox or ps3 will play

i also use tversity media server which the ps3 see's on your pc

best way i think is to stream your videos/pics/music to your ps3. with a program
such as nero mediahome the format of the video isn't a problem as nero converts
any format to a format the ps3 can understand on the fly while it streams no
waiting or anything.

ok. i got nero.. but is a p4 2.2ghz cpu enough to stream it ?
and would it be in dd5.1 also ?

should be fine, just need to try it i guess if you can, i'm using a 2.8ghz and
it's pretty much instant. and i'm not sure about 5.1, i don't use any video
files that come with 6 channel audio.

@ tvfan. well its because in the country im living in has not started hd
broadcast and a digital box i found would be ridiculously expensive to buy and
pay monthly fee for it. like the avg salary is around 10000 pesos and i saw a
digital cable box (sd only i think) that would cost alomost 8000 p per month ☹️
and where i live you can't get it anyway. and i been saving up for a long time
and i want something hd 🙂 been living here almost 2 years now. and i miss my
50" hdtv in norway ☹️

and the ps3 has blu-ray and i think i could get the spider-man trilogy on bd.
and current pc don't support higher res then 1024 agp slot fried so using
onboard crap ☹️ and my other laptop is singing its final tune..

and i just want to experience hd quality 🙂

ps: i do have a divx player/receiver (hr won't be read anyway only supports
800x600px ) but can only turn it stereo mode:( if it was ac3 stereo in the divx
files, i could then make the receiver turn on prologicii mode.

and i get the 720p then convert it to dvd every 3rd episode so that i got 3 ep
on a dvd. and its just has an amazing quality compared to the 350mb if you
convert them to dvd. almost near to the retail dvds you buy.

and if i have to convert the files i just convert it over night 🙂..

your pc should be powerful enough to play the 720p mkv files (you did not
mention what video card you have though). you might just have a codec issue. i
have an athlon xp 3200 (the real clock speed is 2.19ghz) 1gb ram (not even dual
channel) and a geforce 7800gs and i can play the 720p mkv files fine. i use
"media player classic" and the combined-community-codec-pack for the mkv codec.
my suggestion, get media palyer classic (free), get the "combined community
codec pack"(free)and update the video and motherboard chipset drivers for your pc.
