has there been a change in the codecs used recently? i've downloaded
supernatural, smallville and stargate atlantis over the past couple of days and
they won't play but the episodes i downloaded last week are fine. i've tried
playing them with windows media player and vlc but no joy. has there been any
changes or updates i need to keep up with?

is a codec information appliance used to identify which codecs are required to
play media files and if they are available on your pc

tried this, all it says is file type unknown

make sure to have the latest version of vlc 0.8.6c

checked this too, my vlc is up to date.

but the fact that they are not playing with vlc could
indicate a botched download...

i\'ve been doing it the same way for ages, same pc, same version of bitlord, same
isp, even downloading it to the same folder. what would cause a botch in a
download?

all the people out there losing sleep over my little problem can now rest easy!
my totally gorgeous wife pointed out i had done something different with the
affected files. i usually download them on the desktop and then transfer them to
my laptop over my wireless network. the files that wouldn't play i had
transfered using a usb memory stick. i still had the downloaded files on the
desktop so i tried transferring them over the network and guess what? the little
buggers work now! the upside to the whole debacle is i've discovered the joy of
utorrent and i'm gonna sort out automating my downloads. cheers for all your
suggestions peeps 🙂
