i'm doing a project on bittorrent for a university class and i was wondering if
someone more experienced with torrent sites could answer a basic question for me.

there is a standard method of describing tv torrents: [? stands for optional
sections]

series.title?.s0#e0#.encodinginformation?.creator?.avi

there are similar methods for movies, music, etc.

does anyone know where this started? are there any 'ultra-newb' faqs out there
that describe this? do any larger torrent sites have faq's that describe this?
so far, the only passing description of this method of description i've found is
on the utorrent website.

thanks

oh great tell the world about torrents. next thing you know the media companies
will find out and try to shut them down.

errr.... everyone already knows. you think this is something new or something?

i do find it amusing the amount of people that think this is brand spanking new
concept.

gererally
tv show: show.seasonep.source.codec-group
movie: title.year.source.codec-group

that started with the scene groups a while ago from what i can see. some none
scene encoders follow that method, some dont

thanks. i know everybody knows it but sometimes these things have to be
translated in order for some people to get it. i've surfed wikipedia (the
articles on 'the scene' are pretty good). it's not something new but you'd be
surprised at the applications that the torrent naming scheme could be put to. it
works surprisingly well for something so scattered.

besides.. i get to surf torrent sites for a whole semester while doing
research... lol
