overall, the show isn't that bad. quite comparable to bloodties and forever knight but just slightly below moonlight and highlander: the series. obviously, i like shows dealing with immortal character concepts. but again, i agree about the "vampire" issue or its not-being-so. immortal characters are always being held synonymous with immortality, which should not be the case. at least, here, this is a non-vampiric immortal character. hope the show stays on. |

so-so pilot, i did see the main character drawing some enthusiasm from the audience but as others have said the supporting cast are very poor. personally i think there are many other subjects and plotlines that can be explored with an immortal character but this romance idea is quite weak especially since the love interest is revealed straight away. will give it a chance though |

kill it, kill it pleaseee!! i guess idea of the show was to bring something new and fresh, mixture from several very good past shows like highlander (of course dresden files (and when i think this last one was mid season cancelled instead of this you get some kind of (supernatural?) csi, with lots of emotional issues. without any charisma at all and with lots of questions left hanging eg. what makes this last girl so special, did he had some children along the way, etc. suppose shall give one or two more tries, like i did with journeyman...and if not improved then will be...bye bye, amsterdam! |

i happen to like supernatural/vampire/immortal themes, so regardless of the fact that many think its the same shit, different day, i'll definately give it a go. i have actually been looking forward to this for a few months. but as stated before, different strokes for different folks. |

personally i like this show. i was looking forward to seeing it since it was announced for the fall season. the show has great potential and if well written and plotted could very well be a hit.we must remember a pilot is tricky because you have to explain the past and concentrate on the present story all in only 42-44 minutes. like others here said at least he's not a vampire,we don't need another vampire show!!! like other good shows that the networks gave a chance to it takes time to get to know the characters that is if the writers work on builing the characters and introducing mysteries in the plotlines so you will want to tune in to a particular show. fox is a weird network.they cancel good shows, don't give new shows a chance if there ratings are not sky high out of the gate and keep all the trashy and mundane shows, especially reality shows. watch this show and you may be surprised. you may enjoy it as it has a unique spin which can be capitalized upon. p.s. if your show gets picked up by fox and is not trash or reality based it is doomed (read fox'd). |

have you actually watched the pilot episode? the fact that the character is immortal takes a very minor back seat to him solving crimes as a police detective. he uses his learnings and observations of human behaviour over the years to solve crimes. the fact that he is immortal just adds a change to the usual police drama shows. i would like you to name a show that is entirely novel. tv executives chose shows on what has worked in the past - with a special twist - like this show - whether it is a police show - medical show - legal show - sit com. there is nothing that is entirely new. i hope it does well and will wait to see how it is accepted when it actually screens before trying to throw it on the scrap heap. good luck to new amsterdam, i say. |

frankly, i really don\'t see the comparison with moonlight or blood ties here... of even highlander, honestly. there\'s no vampires, no \"there can be only one\" type melodrama, even the love angle seems like it will take a backseat here. it\'s just a cop show where the lead happens to be semi-immortal. everything else is just completely normal. that said, i thought it was very well written and extremely solid for a pilot episode. it\'s, also, rather subtle and witty (his dog being named \"36\" for example). in fact, it\'s probably too intelligent for fox so they\'ll probably fox it all up just like firefly.... anyway, i did find a good fansite for this at h**p://newamsterdam-forever.com |

am i the only one after watching this episode had the thought, this is highlander but the star is the only immortal? and with the twist that he is a detective which leads me to believe that the direction of the show will be him solving crimes instead of protecting other immortals and fighting them like highlander? |

i just downloaded and i liked it. especially the whole table thing. i thought that was a unique idea. that's kind of messed up that they've pulled the plug already. they could have run it while the writer's strike was going on. |
