Viewing EZTV shows on XBox360

hello all,

microsoft recently did their fall update, and one of the updates was divx/xvid
support.

you can view their xbox live website for the details.

now i\'ve setup my connection to my pc from my xbox360, but the shows i\'ve
downloaded from result in:

\"cannot play video\"
\"the file type is not recognized and cannot be played. either the correct codec
(a file that compresses/decompresses audio or video) is not installed or the
file is corrupt\"

now i know it\'s not corrupt, but i\'m just wondering if the groups are using a
codec that is different from what xbox360 supports...

did you grab the codec update as well as the console update?

also, i think the xbox 360 only plays mpeg4 divx/xvid with mp3 audio encoding
and some releases use the original ac3 audio stream.

and i'm also assuming you aren't trying to play x264?

yup, i'm just using the regular captures. for example, i'd like to watch
stargate.atlantis.s04e10.dsr.xvid-0tv.avi over the xbox.

now you said a codec update... is that something else i need to get from xbox
live? i thought that would come automatically.

i've been using my 360 to watch shows from eztv since the fall update with no
problems. in fact just finished the last robin hood and scrubs. it was great
that ms finally included the new video/audio support for the 360. makes it much
faster for me to watch shows on my tv now.

yeah, i grabbed the fall update (\'a console update is required..\') and then when
i needed to watch a video, i got another message: \'a media update is required to
play this video...\'

i never got a media update notice. i only did the fall update and it worked for
all my shows. after the fall update the first thing i tested was connection with
my laptop and streaming my tv shows and it worked perfect. maybe i already had
the media update and didn't know it. it was the main thing i was looking forward
to with the update.

xvid support was not added for media center extender but only through wmp.

that could be my problem. i'm trying to use the extender. i'm assuming the
files here are encoded in xvid, not plain ol' divx, correct?

i'll try and set it up the other way and see if that works.

correct. i tried the same thing as you and got those errors. just follow this
guide, it worked for me.
