hi guys,
i have started using the scheduler to try to download during off peak times of
my isp. my aim is to download flat chat during those times, then during the on
peak times, upload only. i have been playing with the settings to try to best
optimize this, but any advice from people that use it would be most appreciated.

for instance, when i first set it up, i set the on peak download to 0,
forgetting that 0 means unlimited speed!! once i figured that out, i set it to
1kb/s but i don't think this is right. the uploads aren't running as fast as
usual. i think the 'request' for data isn't getting through.

anyone that has played with scheduler, please help!!!

ps. it might help to know that i run 1.5 down/256 up.

thanks in advance! 🙂

hey mum

just some of my personal usage experience to add to aydin.

i also am on a similar plan. if like me your off peak allocation is double
your peak, this may help.

i set my scheduler for full speed off peak (all dark green) with no speed
settings and not to
run at all in the peak period (all white).

i control the speed via the global setting, giving 70% of upload bandwith to
utorrent, in your case that would be 20k i suggest no more than 20k when
everyone is home i adjust it to 15k (50%) so they can all surf without too
much interference.

this allows 3 other people to be on as well as someone using the d/l pc so 4
can surf/play runescape etc.

with d/l of tv shows, once i put them into utorrent they stop and will only
download in off peak unless you are like me and have to watch a show when it
is released, this is where force start is used (everyday) for these shows you
just right click the cued torrent and select force start. once seeding i also
use this to force seed in peak, stopping the older torrents while force
downloading the new show, then once its down back to force seeding. during off
peak it everything just runs as normal, so shows ya wanna seebut can wait
overnight use the off peak and it helps at the end of the month so you do not
get shaped in peak and still have 20-30g left in off peak that you didn't use

sorry rambled a bit but i hope it helps

thanks for that scifi. yeah, i've definately got to play with the settings a
bit. my idea was to allow it to upload during the day, simply cause that
doesn't count to the quota. i was hoping to be able to do that so that by the
time off peak arrives, those seeding would have stopped because they have
reached the desired limit. so it's those settings that i have to tweek. but
if all else fails, i will force seed it as you suggested. i was just hoping to
get it a bit more automated, so that i don't have to check on it all the time.
i tend to watch shows once i get the whole season anyway. so it's just a
matter of trial and error, i suppose!

hmmmmmm.
because i have set the scheduler settings to limited upload rate of 25, and
limited download rate of 5, even when i force a torrent to download, it doesn't
override the 5kb d/l rate, even though the global rate is set to unlimited.

somehow, i don't think the scheduler will be as effective as i had hoped.

i have peak/off-peak times as well, and it took me a few tries to get a
scheduler set-up that i liked. i'm quite content with what i have now.

my scheduler settings are dark green for off-peak and white (turn off) for my
peak times.
i don't use "limited" so the limited up/down speeds are irrelevant for me.
i have unticked "disable dht when turning off" so i can upload to dht during my
peak time.
when i wake up my torrents are finished and queued for seeding, since by that
time my off-peak is over and uploading/downloading is disabled. i then force
start the queued seeding torrents to over-ride the scheduler and upload during
the day.

hope that helps 🙂

i was really hoping to have a limited set up also, but so far it seems that
it's not going to work as i had hoped. i think i'll give your idea of forced
seeding a go, and see how that pans out.
thanks.
