i was just discussing on msn how i didn't bother watching torchwood or primeval
this week because i'm losing interest in both, when i thought of starting this
topic.

after the shockingly bad performance of doc who season 3, i'm actually
considering not bothering with season 4 at all. and catherine tate as the
companion...yeah, that really adds to the "do i really wanna waste 13 hours of
my life?" column.

torchwood is being used as russel t. davies' way of promoting homosexuality
(i've nothing against gays, i just hate it when people use television shows to
promote it). primeval just doesn't have that...i dunno how to describe it.
it's just not season 1. back to doctor who...:

i know die-hard fans who are even considering not bothering. my father has been
a lifelong fan - and he's not interested in it anymore. why? because they're
making it into a kids show.

so i want to know - how many of you are thinking twice about watching season 4
this spring...or better yet, how many of you have already decided you'd rather
spend your time watching something else?

already disagreeing with you there, kid. i thought season 3 was pretty great,
with much better writing (and no awful episode like s2), and rose was finally
gone! that's right, i said it. billie piper's a crap actress, and freema was
better. the whole storyline was much more unified.

never saw primeval, but c'mon. isn't that the show with a chick from s club 7?

"because they're making it into a kids show."

already done. it's called the sarah jane adventures on cbbc.

i like primeval and torchwood.

and im going to see doctor who too.

is the only show that makes me feel enthusiastic, feeling like a kid waiting for
the song and that familiar sound of the tardis again.

i agree with close to everything you've said. i didn't mind the third series of doctor who too much, but
the finale killed if for me. i could go into detail if you really want, but i think the failures of that
episodes (well, two episodes) are both numerous and obvious. ruining the master, the nonsensical
rewind, and the fact that it was basically the same as the 2006 finale are at the top of my list of issues.
now with catherine tate, i have no interest left at all. maybe when stephen merchant takes over in a
couple of years i'll start watching again, but until then, no way. even the late 80s episodes weren't this
bad.

primeval was just hilariously bad from the beginning. i think i watched two episodes.

torchwood was okay, but i didn't even watch the whole first series. captain jack is a really charismatic
lead, and it had some good episodes (countrycide for one) but it was way inconsistent, and the sex (of
the gay, bi, straight, interspecies, or any other variety) was completely over the top. the realistically
colourful language in a primetime show was nice though. 😛
