HiDef media player HDD

i mainly use a media player hdd to watch things on a tv, i have seen a few
that can play hidef files. does anyone have any experience of these and how
does it compare to a) normal 350mb files on the same tv, b) blu ray/hd dvd and
also what cables/connectors do they use?
