what also intrigues me is whether the u.s producers and writers intend to run it
and wrap the whole story up in just two seasons, like the original cleverly did.
or will they start re-writing and dragging the story out as long as possible.

that also intrigues me -- uk lom was wrapped up mainly because john simm didn't
want to continue, which is why ashes to ashes exists. i wonder just *how*
similar the us one will end up being. or if it will end up finishing at all.

if they do a full season run they'll have done more episodes than the original
... it might be a one-season show.

i watched the pilot and i didnt like it, a pale copy of the uk version.
the interesting part is that its the same person that has done the music for
both shows.

the unfortunate part is that like too many new shows, this one will be cancelled
prematurely.

my question is what was that at the end when he tries to jump of the building
and has a cable attached on his back!! is that a movie mistake or did they place
it there for a reason??

you should really watch the bbc original before watching this
simply because
even after only one episode the u.s remake (copy?) is going to come nowhere near
to the original especially in terms of the performances and authenticity of the
locations.

well since the traditional american season has more episodes than the entire run
of the 2 years of uklom i doubt it....

i am sure the producers would love a nice 4-6 run with about 100-125 episodes.

i haven't seen this pre-air yet so i can't comment on it.

is that something like journeyman v2.0 ?

life on mars was first and made in the uk, so you cannot call it journeyman 2.0

honestly..

total garbage, the uk version was way better, much more believable
much more realistic and the scenes were more realistic...

this is a re-hash of the uk version, same plot, nothing original,
totally not interesting...

go watch the uk version .. waaaay better... much better acting as well, much
as i like miles o\' brien as gene, the original gene hunt was just too good...

3/10

my guess is that if this show takes off, they'll drag it out forever. if it
sucks, they'll kill it before any kind of resolution. (hell, 1 season of 22
episodes is more than the entire uk series, even if they run about 10 minutes
shorter.)

personally, i don't think our tv has the guts to end the series the way the
original did, which makes this whole american version intriguing to me. but as a
life on mars fan, this pilot is especially of interest if it's going to be
recast and relocated and never make it to air. (much like the one-off american
red dwarf pilot floating around....)

its just not as much fun watching a show that's different yet i still know
exactly whats going to happen.

btw, the car crash on the original show was better then this ones
joemamahunt Posted at 18/06/2008, 13:16
wow. they're really running out of names..

objects are oriental, people are asian. saying someone is
oriental means you
are saying they are no better than an object.

well it certainly doesn't seem offensive to me, but then again i don't believe
in taking words seriously, especially on the internet. the reason i used it is
be cause saying she is asian and not indian is an oxymoron as indians are asians.
alecoddlyiv Posted at 18/06/2008, 17:09
when i first heard they were remaking this for the us market i had to ask myself
why??????

but if it was going to be done and done right i would have thought it would need
to be set somewhere like chicago or detroit not la or ny.

this was a pre-air release of a pilot that, as it turns out, is likely going to
be almost completely re-cast and re-set from la to nyc. so i would imagine that
they just didn't bother taking the time to edit out those cables since they only
expected this to be viewed by network executives. that's also why many of the
backgrounds and cg street scenes looked like crap.
jjspazuk Posted at 18/06/2008, 18:54
short and sweet. utter crap. will wait to see if they re-shoot it. poor hunt
must be crying looking at what the americans did to him. hope suburban shootout
doesn't suffer the same fate.

bingo. david e. kelly bought the u.s. rights, and was producing this.
he left and the show was taken over by the guys that did october road (no
kidding), the location was moved from l.a. to ny, and they are recasting.

make of that what you will. i suspect there was too much interference with what
kelly was doing, and he figured it was garbage he didn't want is name associated
with.

it can only get worse if you ask me.

i've heard that they're recasting everyone except jason
o'mara. so even if you
don't like this version, you may like it better when it actually airs.

i hope they keep colm meaney too. they need to remake the actors into 70's new
york irish and jewish cop stereotypes. that is the best way to make the show
kickass. looking forward to getting 20 eps or more a season hopefully.
