hi. yesterday evening i asked where i should post problems with and questions
about torrents. i got one reply (that didn't answer the question), and today the
whole post is gone. can someone please tell me where i should post questions
before deleting my post? i don't mind if it disappears after i know the correct
procedure. thanks again.

thanks. that is what i did before i originally posted. you seem to know a lot so
maybe you know the answer. if a torrent shows a lot of peers/seeders, but when
starting the download, doesn't do anything, does that mean the torrent has gone
bad, or is there a lot of conjection/traffic for that torrent (other episodes
were fine), or what else could that mean?

really depends on how old the torrent file is. for instance, if you are trying
to download the last episode of '24' then because of the large volume of other
people doing this, it might take a few minutes to connect. however, if you were
trying to download the first episode of '24' ( the most recent series ) its
possible that the torrent is indeed dead.

if you can't download anything, then you might want to check your ports are
open/firewall isn't blocking it etc

i'm sure this is all covered in the links provided by the site.....

there are plenty of torrents that crawl along for 20mins before getting going.

first rule of torrents: be patient.
second rule of torrents: if you can't be patient then buy it from amazon.

:)

if you want a very indepth answer:

what client are you using?
put all settings down in here
who is your isp?
what ports have you set to use?
what torrent are you trying to get?
do a line speed (google "test speed" ) and post results here.

then perhaps someone cam help. vagueness gets no help as it's like going into a
an it forum and going, "my pc is slow" and then creating thread after thread
because you don't get it resolved.

also - is anyone else noticing the huge volume of people asking about speeds?

thanks all. i'll get a bit more specific.

this is a new torrent from last week. i started its download along with the two
prior episodes from the two weeks before. the prior episodes downloaded without
a problem. the new one never even started despite leaving the app on all night.
i do not think it is the app since the other downloads were fine.

my concern was not about speed, but that it never even started. and then i got
an error message on a different torrent app saying that the tracker couldn't
find it.

meanwhile, i have found another link to this file via a different torrent agent
so i think the file is in fact good.

so a long post about nothing that could have been avoided if you had merely
looked for the torrent elsewhere in the first place.

thanks but that doesn't help me. i prefer to use this webiste or minova. i found
the other link today after i had posted here through someone else who uses a
registration protected search system. i would still like to know the answer to
the question since i plan to download from here again.

so, do newly posted torrents have high enough conjestion that they may not start
downloading for days? if the answer is "yes," then i have my answer. if "no,"
then i need some info on why a torrent that is new and has a lot of
peers/seeders does not start at all versus being slow due to the ratio of peers
vs. seeds.

thanks again. i do not need an in depth answer. just wanted to know if it makes
sense that a new torrent with lots of seeds/peers will not start downloading
while two other torrents of the same show earlier episodes have no problem.

if my app, line speed, isp, orther other info made a difference, i am sure i
would have seen issues in the other downloads as well as ones that i have done
prior to this week (including even earlier episodes of this show).

if there is no general answer as to what makes a new torrent not download at
all, my next question is has anyone else encountered this before with any newer
torrent? should i just give up or try again in a week or so?

your answer is :- "no".

see how useful that is, without further detail ?

you are doing a lot of typing, but not a lot of communicating.
at least tell us which torrent/link you are talking about so we can test it,
rather than just take wild guesses about every possible bittorrent problem
since the dawn of time.

thanks to everyone who responded. fyi - i did originally post my question in the
listing for that episode and no one repsonded. i did it last night and refered
to it in my first post to this forum yesterday that got deleted. the show was
thank god you're here ep7.

i wish someone could have simply provided me with the answer to the question
about new torrents so i would not have had to waste so much time re-asking the
question too. thank you to the person who said that "no". i am assuming that
means to not give up on that torrent.

hey kurai how have you been? nice to see you again i miss
your vitriolic but
well crafted answers...

i've been good thanks - was away in the us for a week for some work stuff.
the task was tedious, but my us colleagues seemed to think it was their
mission to "get the brit drunk" in the evenings, so it balanced out 😉
