well, i'm not male, i'm in the considered age-group (*sighs), but i'll
definately give that a miss too!
the money the network spent for that, they could have at least produced a decent
show, after cancelling so many good ones!

holy cow, i just noticed that gary winick directed this! gary, dude, what
happened? you don't usually suck! tadpole is one of my favorites. (granted,
he wrote, produced and directed that one.)

i admit, i wasn't interested based on the description. male
or female, a show about powerful career _____s doesn't
immediately sound like my kind of show. (what can i say, my
demographic is "slacker." ) but since ya'll were discussing
it, and since it was billed as partly a comedy, i thought
what the hell. but when 4 minutes in they started talking
about shoes as if objects of importance, i was cringing.
overall, the show feels dated, i might've guessed
it was some off-brand early 90s movie if i didn't know
better. i also thought the acting was uniformly bad.
anyway, i could only make it halfway through.

i am curious about what makes people think of a show as a
"chick show." in this case, i'm sure the sex and the city
connection contibuted. but for example, if the show's
description was the same but with male leads...

"this show tracks three powerful career men who are willing
to do almost anything for success in the business world: andy
healy, a successful movie executive, victor ford, a high
profile architect, and nick reilly, editor-in-
chief of a hot selling sports magazine. their thirst for
achievement is sure to get them where they want to go--but at
what personal cost?"

would that influence thinking a show might be a "guy show"
instead of a "chick show"? as above, it could be describing
a show something like mad men. (which btw i did watch
despite the "powerful career _____s" cause i thought it
might be cool because of the retro-ness, though ep1 was
disappointing.)


well i also happen to be a woman. my demographic isn't slacker og power hungry
bitch either... i'm 27, have 2 daugthers and am trying to finish my b.a. and
then master and i really liked this show. i could sympathise with brooke
shield's character and will follow this next winter... i feel like alot of the
girls that post here are trying to play it "cool" to be one of the guys...
there's nothing wrong with liking period dramas and horror and science fiction
at the same time, while treating your shoes with the respect they deserve...

i am a woman. i read this book just couple of months ago and loved it.
just watched the first episode and can say it is pretty close to the book, so
i'm looking forward to continuation. because this first episode is like an
introduction to the whole story, and i usually don't read introductions.
so i suggest you give it a try and see. it will get much better after couple
of eps.

i agree that this is not a show for men, though they could learn something
new 'bout women from it.

i like to think of myself as a pretty open minded individual. with that said,
i must say that this show is absolutely terrible. 2 thumbs way down.

it's not horrible (maybe cuz i'm a woman!) but i've read the book, so it's kinda
just like watching half the novel on tv. it'll possibly get more interesting as
the series gets past the novel and goes into uncharted territory, like satc.
also, i feel that the leads were kinda miscast. i don't much like brooke
shields and the other two are just dull. no powerhouse behind the lead
characters. yes, satc made powerhouse stars of its cast, however there was a
sparkle with that collection of 4 actresses, and however bad their relationship
was by the end of the 6th season, there was always undeniably a chemistry
onscreen between them. not a horrible show, however i'd rather watch
damages...glenn close is awesome in that role.

ummm, didn't have high hopes for this either. nothing beats sex & the city,
which was always consistently funny, with a va-va-voom cast!
